More depth to champion mastery system please !

So i was thinking, Maybe it would be nice to have a way to lose mastery points on champions after not playing them for a while and maybe other ways to boost mastery points on one specific champion when playing it frequently. ALSO, i would like to have a way to see how much points someone has with their champion on the loading screen and maybe in game when pressing Ctrl-6. I think it could be a really cool addition !

** HOW IT WOULD WORK **

  1. Maybe lose about 5-10 k points for each week of not playing a champion.
  2. Points increased by X% for that champion when playing it a certain amount of times per week.
  3. Having an option to display how much points we have on the champion in the loading screen and when pressing Ctrl-6 underneath the cool mastery animation.

I would like to have the people's thoughts on this please. :] Thank you for reading this !

PS: I'm sorry if Riot already mentioned something about this, i haven't seen it. item 3070 item 3070

yeah, being able to switch from "total mastery level" to "total mastery points" would be pretty sweet for sure

Hmmm I think it would be nicer to have the mastery points able to be used in..... "champion mastery shop"s, where every rank of mastery unlocks something new in the shop. At mastery 7 it could be a unique skin? At some lower ones it could change or revert a change to dance, taunt, etc o.O and you buy the stuff with Mastery Points. On the profile page it will show the Total Mastery Points, and at the shop it will show Available Mastery Points

That, i agree. Beign able to buy things off of you mastery points would be pretty cool too !

The decay just seems kinda meh due to it not effecting anything except show how much games youve played.... and the added points only help to get up to mastery 5.... also the decay if it made you lose mastery levels, would defeat what I personally want to do and what Riot is hoping to see im sure of how many mastery 7s can be gotten, im working on supports atm.... long way to go, got 2 already but with a decay id be forced to play a champion im already good or decent with just to keep that one up even if its just once a week

Maybe you could decide which champions lose points and which ones don't ? Thing is, when a rework or nerfs occur. It could really change a player's mastery on it. Say for example, i was mastery lvl 7 with the old Rengar and was completely fine with it but now they changed him a bit and now i don't really like playing him anymore, and i want to get rid of that mastery lvl 7 beacause it doesn't make sense xD ... You get the point.

But, while lots of minor things change, the core of the champion is the same. Look at Sion. His main gameplay was rush at people with his shield and single target stun someone, then explode and kill an entire team. While the damage is less, his overall game play has stayed the same because now he just presses his ultimate, charges half way across the map, and rams into whatever he wants. Someone could play a champion and then items change/new champion comes out, and so they dont play that champion anymore..... etc. Why would you want to go from mastery 7 to mastery 6 then back to mastery 5 when it took possibly months just to get a single S- due to schedules and only being able to play a few games a week and then having to deal with trolls/playing against higher rankings (as silver i was for a while being matched vs 2 plats and a diamond every other game)?

Most do not want to, nor be required to, keep up with that on so many champions. I for one have not played a few of my mastery 6 or 7 supports for over a week at a time and then come back and go 2/2/32 (Nami gets my love lol), so for me, i would hate to have to get that mastery 7 again even though i know i could. I have already stated one of my main concerns about that (the getting the S ranks for it), but another one that is even more of an issue is the 600 Blue essences needed just to get that mastery 7 again, or 1100 to get from mastery 5 to 7. To get that, each 6300 champion is 325 essences. That is 4 of the highest priced champion shards available out of the.... 153? or so. Each shard chance is either a chest AND a key, or 1700 IP. I wont go into all the details about that, but im sure you can see the point being drawn.

With Ranked Queues in general, its a lot easier to do because it is only 1 game mode. One game needed every so often to keep rank. No cost except time to put into it. Will take roughly 20 minutes to 1 hour normally. The other can take days, weeks, months, or in some cases, years to get back due to how long they have to actually play and what events come up in real life.

i just do not see any way to justify the mastery decay for champions. Decent thought path, but I just do not see any way to justify it.

Yeah i see what you mean, and after all you probably may be right about that haha ! I still want to see how much points people have in the loading screen though :3
