More female black champs in the future?

League's pretty diverse when it comes to how champions look and what their backgrounds are. However, i cant help but keep thinking, "how come there aren't any more female champs that are black?"

We already have our fair share of black champions like lucian, ekko, and now pyke, and of course illaoi. But there arent any more girl champs that i can safely say are black.

I hate to bring race into something where its really not that big of a deal, especially in a game where ppl dont really care about that stuff much and just want to play a good game. I agree, I'd prefer quality gameplay over added lore any day, but it is still kind of important to me. As a gay black woman myself, I'd like to see more champs that kinda look like me. I don't think that's too bad.

Its just something thats been on my mind for a bit. It'd b cool to see riot introduce more female black champs, or just more diversity in general. They've done a really good job with the latter so far imo. Especially now with neeko, an openly gay champ! Thats pretty neat!

Thanks for reading :)

I completely agree! I think that there’s still lots of room for improvement in terms of champ diversity. League has so much potential for unique character designs, so I would love to see more amazing women of color represented :)

And as a gay man myself, I agree Neeko being queer is pretty flippin neat

I don't think Illaoi or Pyke are black. They seem more like pacific islanders.

They're coloured at the very least.

He might not be black, but he's definitely a badass dark-skinned dude!

Oooh i agree! I didn't think about that!

Maybe darker skinned people in general aren't populous in Runeterra? It's not like it's earth or anything, so even having both dark skinned and light skinned champions is pretty impressive.

Rather than wonder why there aren't any, you could always create a concept for one. That might be a better way to express your desire. Try and fit one into the universe. Go on, Lucian is lonely [katarina-love]

The fact of the matter is there isn't an Africa equivalent on the map. Shurima is probably your best bet, but the fact it's so strongly tied to the Void and Ascended, most champions from their end up either as animals or purple. And OP simply refuses to include Taliyah or Kai'sa in her explanation for a reason I can only assume amounts to, "they aren't dark enough for me."

That said, a good character will be a good character regardless of race. Lucian is a prime example of an excellent character with a touching backstory that doesn't use his skin tone as a crutch because Runeterra does not have racial discrimination.

And funny you mention Lucian being lonely, 'cause I think bringing Senna back as a ghost or spirit would be a great idea for a black champion.

Senna was white though if I recall correctly.

Either way I think her ghost would be white. Or blu-ish given what I've seen...

Of course, the fact it's entirely green makes it difficult to say for sure, but based on the facial features I assume she's supposed to be black. Lucian's story doesn't say she's blonde or has green/blue eyes so really it can go either way.

I purposely didn't include champs like Taliyah, kai'sa, or sivir because I was focusing more on black champions, rather than champs that are middle eastern, or at least (i believe are) inspired more by middle eastern/Arabic culture. Kai'sa and taliyah could be african, but i dont think theyre black.

I agree that a good character is good regardless of race! That doesn't mean that we shouldn't diversify the races and add more!

Well all in all it is Riot who made the game and chooses whether or not to implement certain changes or additions. We can offer input and ideas but it is their world and their creation in the end. Though I seriously wonder why they don't check out the boards for champion concepts... I've some that are way better than currently existing champions... like way better.

Yea, and while we're at it, can we get a skinny, constantly sick, and near sighted white guy in the game just so I can identify with a character in the game?

Please stop begging Riot to make characters for you.

Peace out,

I wasn't begging, i was only suggesting.

Being able to identify with characters is something that is important to me. I feel like everyone should feel represented.

And if the representation is "a skinny, constantly sick, and near sighted white guy" for you, then why not? I'm sure riot can make any champ look cool, haha.

Obviously, not everyone's gonna agree with me, i dont expect that. And ur obviously entitled to your opinion! But would seeing a female black champ in the future be so horrible?

Overlord Forneus1 votes

Look, the only thing I'm gonna say about any and all future champions is this: I don't give a damn about what they are (Skin, gender, sexuality) all I care about is if the champ is fun to play or not. IF the next champ they make is a black girl, cool more power to Riot, but what I don't want is Riot to make the character a token character to shove in the face of everyone.

Singed fits that, actually. The only thing he's missing is the near-sightedness given he doesn't wear glasses or anything, but one of his eyes appears to be blind so there's that. He's also complete with a rage-inducing gameplay and overall a heavy dash of "troll-ness" in his entirety. Better yet, his in-lore character is mentally fucked to a T.

So I'm pretty sure many people can find themselves within Singed.
