Champion Concept - Braelix, the Guardian of Ionia
This is my first champion concept, so I don't expect it to be that great compared to others, but I thought it was a cool idea.
Concept: Spirit Mage that defends Ionia in times of great need. Origin: Ionia Class: Mage Primary: Support Secondary: Mid Appearance: Sadly I am not skilled enough to create decent concept art, but I would imagine Braelix to be an armored, ghostly figure with a humanoid shape, consisting of the colors blue, green, and gold (maybe purple as well).
Lore:
_Faster. _
Braelix flew through the darkened halls of the temple, her purpose now rekindled. She knew that there was only one reason she currently existed in this earthly realm, just how it always has been in the past: something evil has been awoken.
And it is about to make a move.
She began to hear sounds - footsteps echoing on the stone floor. Increasing her speed, she followed the noise, now beginning to make out voices. Turning a corner, she saw a group of Ionian warriors running in formation towards an upcoming room, fiercely whispering commands to each other. Braelix followed these warriors from a distance, deciding to remain unseen until it was time to act.
Bursting into the room, the Ionian warriors could only stare in a combination of shock and horror. Standing before them was an entity of pure malice, showing no signs of having a physical form, dressed in shadows and radiating a feeling of despair. Below it was an intricate chest, now wide open and unlocked. Before the creature lay a man heavily bleeding, sobbing with terror and grief at letting his curiosity influence him to open such an ominous and dangerous object. The chest had been surrounded by myths of releasing great ruin from long ago, but there was no evidence to those myths. Now, they are proven to have been true, but at the costs of freeing such a sinister being into the world once more.
The creature turned towards the Ionian warriors, a glowing red eye filled with hate looking into the hearts each and every one of them. Taking a few seconds to regain their composure, the warriors began their heroic charge onto the creature, shouting words of justice and honor.
[To be continued - gotta sleep]
Passive: Recompense - Upon dying, nearby allied champions are shielded and given a small amount of health. In addition, whenever Braelix damages an enemy champion, she gains a charge. At 3 charges, her next basic ability is enhanced. This can stack up to 2 times.
Q: Path of Protection - Braelix shields a target allied champion, giving them 10/12.5/15% damage reduction and increasing their movement speed for 4 seconds. During this time, the target leaves behind a trail that shields allied champions that walk on it, and slightly increases their movement speed.
** Enhanced: Vitalize** - Target allied champion, and others affected by the trail, additionally gain increased attack damage and ability power for 4 seconds.
W: Banish - Braelix targets a circular area. After a brief delay, enemies inside the targeted region are dealt damage. Enemy units are dealt additional damage in the inner circle, and enemy champions hit are grounded for 3 seconds.
Enhanced: Enfeeble - Enemy champions hit do 15% less damage, and take 15% increased damage for 4 seconds.
E: Conciliate - Braelix launches a blast of arcane magic in a target direction, damaging enemy units it travels through and stopping at the first enemy champion hit. The enemy champion is then slowed and Pacified, unable to cast damaging abilities for the next 3 seconds.
Enhanced: Halt - Deals increased damage, and roots the first enemy champion hit instead of slowing them.
R: Living Sacrifice - Braelix marks a target allied champion below half of its maximum health for 8 seconds. If the target dies during this time, all allied champions are healed for a medium-large amount of health.
**Gameplay: ** Braelix is mostly meant to be an AP bruiser that empowers her allies, while weakening the enemy team at the same time. Early game, she can use her Path of Protection to save herself or an ally from an enemy attack, or use it on the jungler to follow up on a gank. When trading, Braelix can use Conciliate on the enemy carry, then cast Banish around the slowed or snared target, making it difficult to escape. She can then use Path of Protection on either herself or a nearby allied champion to help reduce any damage taken, should the enemy champion(s) decide to counterattack. Braelix can help engage skirmishes and teamfights by using Path of Protection on a tank or bruiser, strengthening allies that follow up on the engage made. The main focus is for her to peel for her allies, using Conciliate on anyone that dives the backline. Backing it up with Banish can make it hard for the slowed or snared target to get out alive, especially if they've already used any mobility spells to reach their target(s). Living Sacrifice is best used on an allied carry, making the enemy team reconsider killing the low health target that would result in the rest of the team being healed. Overall, Braelix's kit would be best used as a support, allowing her to protect her ADC and set up effective trades or kills. However, she might also be viable in the mid lane, if her abilities prove to do enough damage to successfully trade with the opponent.
**Ability Scaling: ** Braelix's abilities would scale with ability power only.
**Balance: ** This is a part of her kit that I have obviously not touched, such as base damages, slow percent and duration, snare duration, shield/heal strength, and ability power ratios. Her kit is somewhat complex, and I found it very challenging to try to give her numbers on her abilities without making her overpowered or underpowered. Part of this reason is that she is not an actual champion and I have no way of testing her gameplay.
Edit: Changed Braelix's passive so that she gains access to her enhanced abilities by landing her damaging spells on enemy champions, rather than nearby allied champions dying. This rewards skilled players who can use her skillshots successfully, and provides Braelix with opportunities that do not involve her team dying.
Edit: Changed Living Sacrifice from being marked on any allied champion to only ones that are less than half health, making the name a bit more fitting. The increased damage has also been removed, but the heal is now a flat amount that scales with ap, and all allied champions are healed rather than ones nearby the marked target. This helps the ability seem more like sacrificing a near-death allied champion, and less than just buffing an allied champion then making it regretful to kill them.
And that is my completed champion concept! Let me know if you find any typos (I currently don't have time to revise this), have any ideas for improving her abilities, any possible builds, skin ideas, lore, or concept art. Good luck on the rift!
