I actually have thought of something like this and Quilletta could fit into it. I wonder why Riot has not extended their story or world into the spirit realm. 
is one of the champions that can actually travel through that dimension and Yordles as well but we never have seen much of the place. Having the spirit realm as a new ground for champions could expand Runeterra more.
