How to make Ohmwrecker relevant?
Here's a thought:
Ohmwrecker may be the most rarely used item in the game. Why? People generally state that its a poor investment, especially given the alternatives. The "turret disabling" active takes enough time to afford that it doesn't help with early dives, and most diving champions are either tanky or fast enough not to need it by the time its affordable, don't need the stats the item offers, or both. Worse, the item's power falls off hard after its very brief window of relevance as late game tanks can more or less ignore turrets, especially with wise turret aggro management.
My idea: Make the turret disabling active a single-use effect, similar to stopwatch. Make the active procced by a component piece of the final item, similar to the stopwatch which builds into GA, zhonya's and stoneplate. Make that component item available for about 1000 gold, replacing kindlegem in this item, while still providing some HP or tanky stats, rather than cooldown (which is gained in the final item build instead). This solves the problem of the active coming too late, making it available for clutch early plays, without being OP. The item could even be made available in the inspiration tree, similar to stopwatch.
Secondary idea (which I'm less married to but might be a step in the right direction in giving the final item its own distinct use). Make the final item's active channel for one or two seconds, then REVERSE turret aggro for three seconds, so that turrets attack their own team. This gives the final item enough usefulness that tanky champs can buy it, and if used wisely, get a few good hits in during a siege. Still won't kill enemy tanks, but if used at the right moment it could actually force less resilient champions away from their turrets, or allow a tank with CC to get a meaningful dive in against an enemy champion. Enemies would still have to aggro the turret, making the choice to stay and fight, or leave long enough for enemies to proc demolish.
Seems like the item needs some sort of update to be relevant, and having more useful one-time item actives like stopwatch increases opportunities for aggressive plays by tanks and supports!
Just a thought, curious what people think.
