I've been with league since my first years in high school, which would be almost 10 years now, and the thing I've wanted to see out of league of legends the most in the past couple of years is maps. Don't get me wrong I do like their progress on characters and skins and such, and they are fun to play, but the fact of the matter is playing the same map over and over again rather it be Howling abyss, The Twisted Tree Line, or the infamous Summoners Rift gets old. they are fun, but when i know the map as well is i do today it is time to bring some new life into the game.

New maps would allow for a larger more diverse amount of entertainment! chances for new big plays! Not to mention the number of settings the game could have now! which are the Frejlord, Demacia, Noxus, Etc. the point is they have a lot of room to add content that could really flush this game out!

So my big question that all my friends and I have been asking is why havn't they?

do you guys want some new maps to battle it out on? Yea or Nay?

Eh... Not really. At it's heart, League is a game about Lanes and Towers (with Jungle in between). You could remove Alters, Rift Herald, Vile Maw, Dragons, and Baron, and you'd still have League of Legends. As such, a new experience via a map would have to feel different by the number of Lanes, Towers, and Jungle.

Here's a rundown of our current maps:

  • 1 lane, 0 jungles = Howling Abyss
  • 2 lanes, 1 jungle in between = Twisted Treeline
  • 3 lanes, 2 jungles in between = Summoners Rift

So a new experience would be 4 lanes, 3 jungles in between... but then you're asking how "new" that really is. 4 solo laners and a Jungler if you stick with 5 man teams, 3 solos, 1 duo lane, and 1 jungle if you expand to 6 players. Is having an extra top/mid really that different?

This can be done via map skins, and has been done! Remember Butcher's Bridge? That did a wonderful job of making the mode feel fresh and expanded out what Bilgewater looks like.

I would not mind a new map if its not too different then the rules of summoners rift, I really dont want it to be based more heavily on objectives because as it already stands, people dont do them anyways most of the time. item 3632

The problem is they have 2 options increase the number of lanes players which results i nothing added except another lane or make a new mode. The already made a new mode once called dominion and it had a very small playerbase.(Not an attack on dominion as it was my favorite mode just stating facts) The moba genre asnt designed for multiple modes it was designed for one and it was even a standalone game it was a mod.
Also balancing 136 plus champions is hard on one map let alone more look at ha and tt some champs are absolutely broken and some are worthless.

Even if we get new maps and I would really love to have new maps, the community would completely ignore it and stick to Summoner's Rift. It's an annoying peeve I have with other arena based games. At least Call of Duty Modern Warfare had randomly picked maps so people don't have to play the same one over and over again even if it gets boring.
