Colourblind Options, Especially for the Minimap
I stole this from Nenesse, they posted it 7 years ago. I'm having the same issue they were way back then, and they stated it as well as I ever could.
> Hello, red-green colorblind here with a petition for a Riot-supported colorblindness mod. This may seem like a minor concern, because if you're not colorblind yourself, you can't fully appreciate the difference.
>Red-green colorblindness is actually quite a common condition-- according to Wikipedia which claims statistics from a 2010 report, it's 7-10% of all males.
>As an experiment, go ahead and take the following colorblindness test by trying to read the numbers (aside from the obvious one.)
>To be clear, I fail this test completely even after being told what to look for. That's the difference colorblindness makes. No this doesn't mean I am completely unable to see red or green.
>It may not look like it to any of you, but the red and green outlines around champions on the minimap are so thin that I can't even see them at all, and the difference between allied/enemy minion health bars is tough too, to the point where every once in a while I try to lasthit my own minions or think that an enemy minion is going to protect me from a Blitz grab. The health bars are the eye-catching visual element that tells most people's brains about minions, and they do not look as distinct to me as they do to you. Even champion health bars blur together in the heat of combat. According to Wikipedia, about 8% of all males and 5% of everyone may be colorblind, and all of them, even mild cases like myself, are hampered by the lack of this feature.
>BUMP IT AND "SINGE" IT IF YOU SUPPORT THIS!
>I am aware that colorblindness mods exist, but these occasionally break patches. Installing the mods is as easy as installing a custom skin and it certainly didn't take anyone nearly as much work as it takes to create a custom skin-- Riot could no doubt hammer this out in a single patch if they diverted some people to the task. I understand that implementing colorblindness features might upset some existing structures that were never meant to be changed, but this is important to a lot of people and the modding option is not sufficient. Among other things, the new "shield HP" function does not work with modded champion health bars.
Could I get a reply from a dev on how hard it would be to implement some different colour scheme options? The current 'colorblind mode' is somewhat good for some things, but there are still some issues for some people.
Something in the UI options like:
Ally Minimap Icon Outline = White, Teal, Yellow, Orange Enemy Minimap Icon Outline = Crimson, Blue, Black, etc.
Even better would be to let us select between all colours for each side, by plotting a dot on a rainbow spectrum for each team, or something.
Being able to distinguish friend from foe out of your eye's corner in a split second is a pretty important aspect of the game.
Thanks for reading.
Edit: quote formatting didn't stick. Looked fine in the preview. Whoops.
