New player experience: 5 Points of Feedback for the devs

Hi, new player here (3 weeks, ~30 hours, casual)

I read that riot games likes to improve new player experience, so, as a new player, i'd like to give feedback. Personally, what keeps me from playing pvp modes with other rookies more often, is that i don't mind losing, but i extremely mind being a liability to my team. It's very difficult to avoid that. So, some suggestions:

  1. Blind Pick Blind Pick as a new player is a pain. Since i'm matched with players that play as bad as myself, the lowest rookies you can find, it's a pain to get the group together, because many new players don't have a concept about roles. They just lock in their hero, they don't state their role, they don't talk and the team comp is messed up. You end up with three mids and two adc's. And that's just not fun. You are forced to play the next best thing the team is missing, usually support or jungle, but as a rookie, often times you just can't.

So, i'm wondering, why is the champion select the first and only thing in Blind Pick? Wouldn't it just be better for one to select a role first? Add a screen with top, mid, bot, jungle and support and let people pick and lock in that. And then go on to the champ select as usual. That would make me play Blind Pick a lot more often. And, tbh, thats where you can play as a rookie, because you don't have enough champions for Draft Pick (Draft Pick has other rookie problems i'll get to later).

Building upon that, if you really want to improve new player experience, add a 10 min Tutorial for each role, which you have to complete before being able to select the role in blind pick (and maybe draft pick as well):

top: Deault map, but minions only spawn on the top lane, with an enemy beginner bot on that lane. Tutorial is finished once the first tower of the enemy is destroyed. Tutorial is failed if you lose your tower.

mid: Same as 1, but mid lane.

Bot: Same as 1, but with another bot on your side as support. Same goes for the enemy bots.

Sup: That one's tricky. I'd suggest same as 3, but you can only damage minions to 50% health, to force people to actually support their adc and harass their enemies instead of just auto attacking minions. To be honest, i don't know how to play support, didn't get to it, yet.

Jungle: There are no minions. Evade the enemy jungler bot and reach level 6 before the enmey jungler does.

  1. Summoner Spells FFS remove the level requirement on Flash and Smite, both spells are essential.

  2. Draft Pick It's awesome to get autofilled to a role you never ever played in either Blind Pick or Draft Pick before. I assume usually it's support. Might be something else entirely. Thing is, as a rookie, you're completely unprepared: You don't have a runepage, you never read a tutorial, you don't have an item set for a champion that fits that role, you might not even have a champion for that role or the worst case: You don't know what you're supposed to do at all. Imagine you never played jungle before and being assigned that role. I felt really bad that happened to me. I tried to get out of the "My Blind Pick Teams actually are blind"-Problem by buying some heroes to be able to Draft Pick and got assigned support. Only thing i know a bit is mid and adc. End of story, we lost. Well, my adc was a bot anyway, so at least i wasn't the only one to blame. Autofill shouldn't happen to people who haven't reached level 30. Or, give me an option to disable autofill and take extremely long queues into account. As i said, i'm fine with losing. But i don't want to be the one causing a loss for four other people, because i'm assigned a role completely unsuited to me.

  3. Bots/AFK/Stupidity I can't flag or report someone for being afk or a bot while in the game. There should be an afk/bot vote that results in the game being aborted, going back to the queue. Same goes for stupidity. In rookie games, where poeple don't understand roles, you should be able to report something like a second mid-laner, who's supposed to be a jungler, immediatly and thus aborting the game. It usually just ends up with 20 Minutes of utter disappointment and frustration.

  4. MMR FFS let me see my and other peoples MMR. And split that. Once i bought Annie i did really well mid. I'm a much better mid player than in any other role, with any other champion. So, i played Annie a lot and did fine (for a rookie, remember). Now i want to practise top. The first time i'll play top, i'm supposed to be as good as with Annie mid. And that just won't happen. So split the MMR. Give a base MMR and a Role MMR. Blind pick can't take into account Role MMR, but Draft Pick can. And it'll even out things a lot more. And, talking about MMR. I have some friends who're playing casually for some years. They never got past gold, if even. First pvp game i played, natuarlly i teamed up with them and, being premade and thus having a higher MMR, got matched against a set of platinum ranked players. Trust me, premade or not, if a group of three gold/silver players play with a rookie, they don't have an advantage. They shouldn't get matched against better players because they're premade. For them it's like in a car race with the handbrake on. Needless to say, we stopped playing together because we just can't. And that sucks.

That's just my two cents to the whole thing. Keep coding and have fun.
