Did Irelia Need to be Reworked?

So I was finally able to get Irelia before she was reworked to try her out. I had planned on getting her a long time ago but with Kai'Sa being released and me wanting to get Kindred because I got a shard for her Galaxy skin, it took me a while before I was finally able to get her. Shouldn't have taken that long but I been busy with prepping to move.

Anyways, as I was playing her I found that there was nothing wrong with her. Everything about her was great and she was fun to play. I talked to someone (friend of a friend) about it as we were playing a match together he said "Irelia never needed to be reworked. She was just fine as she is." My friend asked for my opinion on it and I told her I agreed with him. I found that her abilities made a nice flow and was extremely handy when really needed.

But, this board is about your guy's opinions. Do you think she needed a rework or was she fine as is? Sometimes I feel like riot reworks champs too soon. especially now since we can only get champs through BE which can be hard to obtain when you're busy. Plus, if you add the fact the new players will go crazy for all the mainstream champs, they don't really notice the low stream champs until they're around level 25 or something. They hardly gave Irelia a chance to show off because of the BE bit. This is my opinion though. I feel if we still had IP our champs would be bought faster and the low stream champs would actually get noticed.

Her Q and E were point and click, her W was a use and forget ability, her R existed just to refresh Sheen procs and her passive was just some tacked on hidden power with no synergy with her kit.

So yes, her kit was outdated and needed changes. You actually have to think to use more than half your kit now.

I honestly think that her old kit was completely fine. The new Irelia is not even played top anymore. Most people play her mid but changing a champ just to make it fit for a different role which wasn't intended means that riot seriously has not done a good job with the rework and I don't look forward with the coming reworks of riot anymore. Eve rework was bad, fiora rework was even worse and same goes with irelia. Warwick rework also has now completely neglected him from the existing meta and now you see a handful of champs who you go against. Anyways coming back to irelia, the only thing she needed was certain slight changes to her existing kit not totally change the identity that she was known for. People enjoyed playing her for the sustain she had and now we know thats not gonna happen and yes the only reason you thought that her kit was outdated was because of the amount of unnecessary nerfs that were done to her. There is nothing wrong with a champ having a point and click abilities. It just makes it different from other champs.

It's because she was an atrocious stat check champion. Whilst being a stat stick character isn't FUNDAMENTALLY awful (The better designed juggers namely Darius aren't bad on a fundamental level at all) but Irelia was not a well designed stat check. She either 100% had more stats then you or she didn't. Whilst she was fun to play she was annoying at best to fight against. New Irelia seems to be much better designed
