[Champion Concept] Marleena, The Ghost Princess
**Appearance **
A spectral girl with a young face and large glowing eyes. Her body is slightly see-through and gray, but also glows a soft blue. She’s fairly short, retaining the appearance of a younger teen, and has short silvery-blue hair that doesn’t quite reach her shoulders. A wide, devious smile is almost always on her face. She wears a billowy long-sleeved dress that becomes raggy and torn at her waist. She has no legs, instead just floating above the ground with the tattered remains of her dress flowing in the wind. Atop her head is a nicely-fitting crown that glows just as she does.

Playstyle
Marleena is a mobile mage who specializes in zoning her opponents and controlling the flow of battle. The ability to steal movement speed from her opponents as well as dodge abilities and stun in melee makes her a good counter to burst-reliant assassins, while her long cooldowns and low health make her vulnerable to more durable fighters and organized attacks. What she lacks in single-target focusing is made up for in the utility that comes from her dual-ultimate, which, when used correctly, can completely turn the tide of a battle.
Stats
Health: 370 (+75) Health Regen: 5 (+0.75) Mana: 270 (+50) Mana Regen: 8 (+0.75) Range: 130 (Melee) Attack Damage: 55 (+2.5) Attack Speed: 0.671 (+1.45%) Armor: 16.5 (+3) Magic Resist: 30 (+1) Movement Speed: 350
Abilities
**Passive: Boo! **
The first ability Marleena uses against an enemy champion in combat will steal 10%/15%/20% movement speed from them for 3 seconds. She will not gain movement speed from multiple champions at once, instead only applying the slow.
Q: Spectral Slash
Type: AOE 0.5 Second Channel
Range: 700 Cost: 55/50/45/40/35 Mana Cooldown: 6.5/6/5.5/5/4.5 seconds
Marleena unleashes ghostly energy in an area in front of her, dealing 40/55/70/85/100 (+0.5) magic damage in an area. If the target is debuffed with Shaken Soul, this ability consumes the debuff and deals 20/25/30/35/40 (+0.2) bonus magic damage to them.
W: Intangibility
Type: Activation
Range: 300 Cost: 70 mana Cooldown: 12 seconds
Marleena flips through the air, becoming untargetable for 0.4 seconds before returning to her original position. Any enemies near her will take 75/85/95/105/115 (+0.3) magic damage and be stunned for 0.5/0.75/1/1.25/1.5 seconds. The enemy will also receive a “Shaken Soul” debuff for 3 seconds afterwards, making them vulnerable to her ultimate as well as bonus damage from her other abilities.
E: Royal Entourage
Type: AOE
Range: 950 Cost: 75 mana Cooldown: 15/13.5/12/11.5/10 seconds
Marleena calls a ghostly minon forth, dealing 40/50/60/70/80 (+0.4) magic damage in a small area. If the target is debuffed with Shaken Soul, this ability consumes the debuff and deals 10/15/20/25/30 (+0.2) bonus magic damage to them. The ghost remains stationary for 5 seconds before vanishing. If Marleena casts an ability on a ghost, it will perform a different action depending on the ability. Walking through a ghost will also boost Marleena’s movement speed by 5%/10%/15%/20%/25% for 2 seconds.
Q: The ghost releases a cursed field around itself that slows enemies that walk into it by 20%. Does not stack with Boo!. (Range 450).
W: The ghost will unleash a continuous beam of energy at the nearest enemy champion, dealing magic damage. The channel lasts for the ghost’s remaining active time, and will switch champions if another is closer. Deals 40/50/60/70/80 (+0.5) magic damage per second. (Range 700).
R: The ghost will split into five separate undead warriors. These minions can be controlled to attack specific targets and disperse after 10/20/30 seconds and have a leash range of 1200. Their stats are as follows:
Health: Equal to Marleena’s ability power (+0.65), minimum health of 100
Attack Damage: Equal to Marleena’s attack damage divided by 2
Attack Speed: 0.625
Movement Speed: 350
Armor: 50
Magic Resist: 30
R: Flesh Conscription/Army of the Underworld
Type: Single-target Cast
Range: 600 Cost: 500 mana Cooldown: 250/220/190 seconds
Marleena flies into the body of a target debuffed with “Shaken Soul”, taking control of their stats and actions for 5/10/15 seconds. This cannot be used on minions or monsters She does not gain vision of the enemy team. The champion will switch allegiances for the duration of the ability, becoming untargetable to the allied team. If the possessed champion dies, Marleena will also die, but receive credit for the kill on that champion. When the effect ends, Marleena is repelled from the host and her stats are reduced by 75% for 10 seconds. Marleena can end the effect early by reactivating her ultimate.
If Marleena uses this ability on a ghost summoned by Royal Entourage, it will cast Army of the Underworld, described above. Reactivating her ultimate will cause the ghosts to move to or attack a target on the location of your cursor.
Lore
Marleena is the Crown Princess of the Underworld, a realm where the souls of the dead dwell after being separated from their corporeal flesh. There, they rest, reflect, and relax, free of life’s burdens… but they are also toyed with and ordered around without mercy by Marleena, who often grows bored of endlessly filing paperwork and haunting oblivious mortals. She was once a human herself, in times even history has forgotten, but her strong will, manipulative nature, and unquenchable desire for power attracted the attention of the ambivalent King of the Underworld. Whether it was on mere whim or according to some grand scheme, he took her on as his adoptive daughter and pupil. Ever since, her maniacal laughing has echoed off of the stone walls of the realm of undeath, and those who have passed on have known little rest.
For most cultures and countries in the land of Valoran, death was not a complicated issue. Whether it is feared, mourned, or even celebrated, the souls that leave this world are simply gone forever, vanished into the ethereal mist beyond mortal understanding. And even the rare being that returns from the realm beyond is merely regarded as an enigma, an abomination against nature, good only for fighting wars that the living would rather keep their hands clean of. Let the dead lie in peace beneath the earth, out of sight, and out of mind, most students of magic would say, speaking out against the viler practices, necromancy chief among them.
Thus it was, until Princess Marleena emerged from the realm of death and entered Valoran, a host of vengeful spirits in her wake. It was on that day that the concepts of life and death became much more complicated for the inhabitants of Valoran, as hordes of their own dead loved ones and ancestors of the past began marauding across the continent on their slow but steady crusade. For it seemed that Marleena, the pampered heiress of the Underworld itself, had grown bored with her endless hours spent conscripting fresh spirits, torturing blighted souls, and moving the personal possessions of those who weren’t paying attention ever so slightly. Why, she had thought to herself with a smile, do the living get to have all the fun while I’m stuck down here?! My illustrious beauty must be brought to the surface for all to behold!
Marleena and her royal entourage swept across Valoran unchecked for nearly a week, possessing innocent souls and demolishing villages with their ectoplasmic rage, all in tune to the princess’ laughter and whimsical cruelty. However, though the magicians and summoners within the League of Legends were temporarily stymied as to how to defeat an army whose numbers constantly replenished, they soon discovered that the spirit’s rage was only as strong as Marleena’s will to control them. Thus, with the assistance of key champions within the League, an operation was executed to imprison Marleena in a circle of magic that cut off her communion with the Underworld denizens. Though she raged against her bonds for a time as she watched her now-confused and helpless minions be banished back to their home realm, she became much more passive and cooperative when she was taken to the Institute of War and interrogated for information. The summoner’s demanding questions regarding her nature of undeath and motivations for her attack were all met with a smile and polite compliance, as Marleena, after witnessing the unparalleled control and power of those who had confined her, had grown keenly interested in this institution she found herself in.
In the end, when both the summoners -and Marleena- had learned all that they needed to know, it was agreed that Marleena would be allowed to roam the Institution freely as well as have free passage between it and the Underworld, and her crimes against Valoran forgiven, in exchange for servitude within the League of Legends. Marleena was only too pleased to accept their proposition, that she herself had suggested through veiled compliments and hints as to her own mysterious powers gained through undeath. Now, Marleena acts as the sole representative Valoran has within the realm of death, as well as sating her eternal boredom and lust for cruelty as a spectral, vicious champion of the League of Legends.
“You guys think you’re better than me just cuz’ you have skin and stuff?! Bow before me, flesh-loving ingrates! Muahahaha!”
- Marleena, after a summoner made one too many ghost jokes at a council meeting

Animations/Effects
Spawning: Marleena emerges from the ground out of a circular green portal, both when starting the game and after respawning.
Idle Animation 1: Marleena drifts around aimlessly, looking around the area as though curious.
Idle Animation 2: Marleena summons a glowing blue orb of magic that floats just above her hand, and she smiles as she watches hazy images of spirits spiral around it.
Idle Animation 3: Marleena briefly looks down at her hand, making sure her nails are trimmed and flawless.
Movement: Marleena flies through the air with her hands held near her sides, her ghostly dress flowing behind her slightly. Her hair, though short, slightly waves around her head as well. She drifts side to side a little as she flies, meandering and carefree.
Attacking: Marleena slashes with her hands, thin blue contrails coming from her fingertips as she does so. Each attack is a variation of slashing horizontally or vertically, usually alternating hands.
Speed Boost: From either her passive, or any other speed buff, Marleena will stretch out her arms like an airplane, her hair and dress billowing behind her a bit further.
Homeguard: A spectral carriage appears out of nowhere, pulled by one of her ghostly minions at super speed while Marleena just lounges in the seat.
Capturing a point in Dominion: Marleena folds her arms and leans back against nothing, one of her minions appearing above her and stretching out a hand to capture the point. She can’t be bothered with this sort of thing.
Boo!: When it activates, a glowing blue eye will appear above the affected enemy until ithe debuff wears off.
Spectral Slash: She floats a bit higher into the air and slashes her right arm horizontally, causing the targeted area to become engulfed in a burst of blue magic, appearing in sync with the movement of her arm across the ground. As the ability ends, a smokey blue effect lingers on the ground for a brief moment before dissipating.
Intangibility: Marleena does a backflip through the air, accompanied by a quiet wind blowing sound effect.
Royal Entourage: Marleena thrusts an arm in the air, as though pulling her minion on invisible strings up from the earth. The normal summoned minions are blue like her, with featureless faces and drab clothes that float just a bit above the ground. The minion appears immediately in a burst of blue energy, allowing her to follow up with her other abilities. Her Q will cause the ghost to raise its arms, instantly summoning a circular field of bluish-black cracks in the earth that glow with energy. Her W will make the ghost unleash basically a brighter blue version of Fiddlesticks’ drain at the enemy champion.
Flesh Conscription: Marleena becomes untargetable in the brief moment it takes for her to flip through the air and dash into an enemy champion. While being possessed, the champion will have a glowy blue mist surrounding them.
Army of the Underworld: Using her R on a ghost minion will cause five ghost soldiers to appear in a similar burst of energy, however they now wield lances in their right hands and small round shields in their left hands. They each attack with slashes from their lances.
Joking: Marleena does a slow flip through the air before rapidly returning to her original position, hands raised as though scaring someone.
Taunting: Marleena summons a glowing blue orb above each hand, channeling them furiously with a devious smile.
Recalling: Marleena summons a ghostly nail file and starts filing her nails. Once the channel is up, she quickly flies down into the ground, then emerges up from it on the summoner’s platform.
Dying: Marleena dissolves into silvery mist that then drifts downwards into a green portal that opens up in the ground, which promptly vanishes
Skin Ideas
Shadowborn Marleena: Purple color scheme, with eyes glowing a bright violet. Her summoned minions are purple as well, with shields and lances that have a slight violet sheen. When she possesses a champion, they will glow violet instead of blue.
Disco Rave Marleena: Marleena constantly shifts between different colors that ebb and flow throughout her body. Her Q emits rainbow strobe lights, her W causes her to shine extremely brightly and emit a dubstep drop sound effect, and her ghosts are all dressed in brightly colored uniforms. When she possesses a champion, they will be circled by multicolored spotlights instead of glowing blue.
Blood-Crazed Marleena: A firey red color scheme with orange highlights. Her hair is bright orange and almost looks like fire. Her Q causes blades to rapidly emerge and descend into the ground, causing blood particle effects on those hit. Her W will also have added fire effects to those hit by it. Her summoned minions are also orange, and have flaming lances and bright orange shields. When she possesses a champion, they will be circled by a red blood-like effect instead of glowing blue.
I decided I would repost this from the forum archives. Thanks very much for reading!
