Ryze Suggestion - change to Q

My current concerns about Ryze:

  1. Allow Ryze to spam charge his key item (Tear) faster
  2. Give him at LEAST one skill shot - for checking brush, and charging tear of out combat as stated above
  3. Give him a way to utilize his large mana pool for something
  4. Increase synergies between his Q, W, E

I suggest changing his Q to synergize better with his other spells and also to enable him to more quickly charge his tear and utilize his high mana. Perhaps make his Q a ground targeted AOE. This aoe will charge over time (similar to Lux's E) and can be triggered early. The longer it charges, the more mana it consumes and the more damage it deals. If placed and triggered immediately, it will do very little damage, cost very little mana, and act as a spammable tear-charger.

When combined with his W, Ryze could place this below his enemy when he immobilizes them, allowing it to charge before triggering it, dealing additional damage and consuming more of his plentiful mana. Perhaps if enemies in the zone are hit with Ryze's E, they could accelerate the charging process, making the max damage explosion happen sooner. When combined with his ult, the area of the effect or the explosion radius could be increased, or some other mechanic.

I like the idea and the consideration put towards it, but there are some things that kind of make the prospect of it a little strange. Given the thought of it being a ground-targeted AOE that can be popped prematurely, it doesn't actually sound like it could be spammable, since even if it's cast at close range, it would still require a brief moment to travel, set itself, and prime. Although the idea of having it require continuous mana drain to maintain on the field does remedy that somewhat, since Tear does generate a charge on mana expenditures, albeit with a timeout after the second consecutive charge. Also, given that Ryze's specialty is in runic magic rather than light magic, the possibilities of him having something to bush-check would be rather low. His current Q is pretty reliable as is, with low cooldown and great damage at later levels, so it already has the ability to be used for Tear of the Goddess charging, efficient damage to repel enemies - albeit at the cost of bush safety - and the low cooldown makes it a useful spell to cast the rest of his repertoire with due to his passive. His ultimate makes its most use when comboing in dense fights with his W and E, and changing his Q to be like Lux's Lucent Singularity would kind of make him weaker in the respect of not having a quick burst spell. All-in-all, while this is a really well thought-out idea, it kind of feels like more of an off copy of Luxanna Crownguard's basic abilities.
