This is a an idea i had last night. I whipped doodles to go with it last night, lemme' know what you guys and gals think!
EDIT: Enemy champions shouldn't be punished by putting out fires. That's a lot of harass for the brand without really doing anything.
for the sake of argument, Brands "Blaze" effects oh his abilities are replaced by the crater interactions.
Brands lob needs to be an aoe in order to be a lob. I was thinking about the size of a Syndra orb

Really cool ideas. I think this concept does drive home better his theme as a fire elemental.
At the time being, I feel he's just a somewhat generic mage with a fire-themed skin; the burning craters concept definitely sets him apart and gives him a more unique playstyle & identity.

But really, it seems like a good way to keep him up to date with the direction that Riot is going (more emphasis on mechanical skill with each champion having debatably over loaded kits that should balance out once everyone is OP thus making no one OP). The ult thing might not be the best idea, just for the fact that he can put a crater in a team fight and royally screw over the entire enemy team with one spell. The other thing that might not be the best is the damage for stamping out his craters. That would be punishing people with no effort on Brand's part for trying to stop him from using those things.
All in all it looks like it might be fun to play around with and I hope Riot considers some of the ideas.
This would make it fun. Brand's simpler combos with extreme burst damage To a bit more complicated and harder to master combos with extreme damage and zoning :DD As a brand main +1 !

Love the idea of adding a mini-game to Brand but I have a few questons.
1: Would his Q still stun like normal if it strikes a burning target outside the craters? 2: Would toning down the power of his craters while adding an additional way to summon them be worthwhile? Because as it stands his crater mechanics are gated by the recharge of his W which is a somewhat costly spell. I think it maybe worth toning the power of the craters down a bit and adding in that he summons one whenever he gets a blaze combo or casts W maybe a better interaction. That way you can get craters up quicker. 3: Doesn't an opponent standing in a crater cause it to be snuffed? Thus severely limiting your window to cast a spell on them? 4: Wouldn't Q need to become AoE if it changed to a lob since single target ground targeted abilities are kinda non-existent?

I like Brand as is, he's pretty much my main. If I didn't love him so much I'd be more open minded to change probably. You get an A for effort though I like your concept really, just not for me. My main issue with it is that it relies somewhat on static interactions like Zyra (and that's the reason I hate Zyra).
One of the better rework ideas I've seen.
One thing though, either the craters need to have a really short duration, not be able to reset so often, or not apply his passive.

Brand was my go to mage when I burned myself out of playing Morgana (played her from level 10 to 25 almost exclusively) back when I was a big noob. I tired of playing him, however, because back in those days Mages had really shit late games and Metagolems ruled the meta, so they felt even weaker. I never really got back to him. This sounds like an awesome kit and really captures the idea of setting the world aflame.
However, I think you should explain/justify a few things.

I think that it's a really cool idea and it plays really well with his theme (Well, he just wants to purify the world with fire- "Ready to set the world on fire?"- So spreading fires and making those craters, go really nicely with his concept).
as a plat mid main i agree with everything except for his ult not changing. it's really awkward playing as brand with an ult that is kinda based off luck
seems nice! the Q and W combo reminded me of that firey god dude from Smite (was a boring game!). Because one of the skills would set up a gas zone (Like your idea of Brands Q) and another skill would ignite it and stun everyone inside
The one thing i don't like is that the enemy gets penalized for stomping out a crater.

Brand isn't even bursty, he's just sustained damage. But yes this is a good idea
So... about how long do those crators last? 5 seconds? 15 seconds? 50? Just some magnitude.
