More Runes!

I feel that since we're on the way to removing lower tier runes, it's time to make more interesting runes. Expand upon their potential as a system to add something to the game.

Right now, they add flat stats to the game. That's nice and all, but an alternative with effects instead would be neat too.

What I'm proposing is a system where you need multiples of the same rune to form a set, which would activate an effect similar to a mastery. These rune sets would not offer stats like other runes but would have special effects. If you can have two of the same full rune set, the effects will stack. Quintessence sets will always require at least two, so they will never stack, and the minimum/maximum for other sets is 3/5; Three being a triple stackable effect, and five being unique.

Here's a list to help understand what I'm talking about:

Quintessence

Wind Essence Rune Set [0/2]: When you have two of this rune set equipped, the "Wind Drake" buff will persist by half in combat. Fire Essence Rune Set [0/2]: When you have two of this rune set equipped, the "Fire Drake" buff will be increased by an extra 2% each rank. Ocean Essence Rune Set [0/2]: When you have two of this rune set equipped, the "Ocean Drake" buff will persist by half in combat. Earth Essence Rune Set [0/2]: When you have two of this rune set equipped, the "Earth Drake" buff will also increase damage done to enemy minions based on rank. Primal Essence Rune Set [0/3]: When you have three of this rune set equipped, obtaining the "Primal Drake" buff increases all other Drake buff ranks by one.

Marks

Bloody Rune Set [0/4]: When you have four of this rune set equipped, your basic attacks will deal an extra 6% of the damage dealt as damage over 3 seconds. Hungering Rune Set [0/4]: When you have four of this rune set equipped, killing small jungle monsters grants a permanent bonus of 5 HP per kill up to a maximum of 150 health. Slaughter Rune Set [0/5]: When you have five of this rune set equipped, getting a multikill will temporarily increase your damage by 5% per enemy champion slain. (Double/5%, Triple/10%, Quadra/15%, Penta/20%, "Hexa"/25%) Slam Rune Set [0/5] When you have five of this rune set equipped, your hard CC effects have an increased duration.

Seal

Learning Rune Set [0/3]: When you have three of this rune set equipped, you gain 33% increased experience from units you do not kill and champion assists. Discount Rune Set [0/3]: When you have three of this rune set equipped, items in the shop cost 10% less. Riches Rune Set [0/4]: When you have four of this rune set equipped, your starting gold will be increased by an additional 100 gold. Stalwart Rune Set [0/4]: When you have four of this rune set equipped, shields on you are increased by 12.5%.

Glyph

Resting Rune Set [0/5]: When you have five of this rune set equipped, your Energy regenerates 100% faster while out of combat. Exploitation Rune Set [0/4]: When you have four of this rune set equipped, every subsequent critical hit within 3 seconds of eachother deals 5% more critical damage. Caster Rune Set [0/3]: When you have three of this rune set equipped, your maximum cooldown percentage is increased by 3% Enchanted Weapon Rune Set [0/5] When you have five of this rune set equipped, ability power damage applied by your basic attacks can critically hit.

Some sets of runes could only be obtained by the hextech crafting system, and others obtainable by direct purchase in the store.

This is Runeterra after all. [slayer-jinx-wink]

I LOOOOOOOVE this. Please repost this weekly until it gets traction and put a ticket into riot support. It would absolute have to be a preseason thing though. To far in the season for it for S6 but YESYESYES PLEASE. there would need to be tweaks but that's riots job. But overal we need something like this.

Riot missing the chance on doing something like this is sort-of the communities fault.

We (pro-scene included) rush them to do new things so they focused on one because of the rushed atmosphere, when in reality, I almost feel the Runes and masteries shouldve shared a role akin to your proposed one. I think in the long term it would keep the diverse flare of pre-game options alive and add a much needed simplicity to newcomers and even just people who try to keep up with the ever adjusting modern face-check style of changes to the game.

but yes. +1

Remember when they reworked masteries, and everyone picked Thunderlord's Decree regardless of their role? That would happen with this.

Creating new runes is a good way for diversification and make the game more interesting and strategic , but maybe these effects may be more powerful than usual runes . Unfortunatly, they should be tested to see their utility vs usual runes . Theses runes should also be IP's purchase because it's influencing the in-game and could make things unfair. However , I think that this is a great idea and should be taken more seriously . Maybe something great could come of it.

Some good ideas, some bad ideas.

Those Quints are horrible, just horrible. Worse bait than GP10 runes. You are losing your most important runes (could be 15 AP, 4.5% movement speed, 13 armor, whatever), banking on that particular dragon spawning (not to mention getting it).

Marks are good Slaughter is particularly nice; helps "Popping off" champions a lot, as well as helps people close out a game with the damage amp vs structures. Slam is too strong.

Seals are broken Learning and Discount are broken as hell. Supports would just take Learning and end up hitting level 6 a full level before their marksmen, and some junglers could use it to camp out a lane endlessly without putting themselves behind.

Glyphs are equally broken Resting (assuming you mean Mana) would be pretty OK, not too bad. Exploitation will be made completely broken by Yasuo and rageblade Xin. Caster is... ok, I guess. Your CDR cap going up by 3% is pretty good, but you still need to invest in a whole other item to get that 3%. E. Weapon is pretty cool, but will be abused. Teemo, Kayle, Mordekaiser, and all 3 Bard top players will burn everyone at the stake.
