[Champion Concept] Lios, The Keeper of the Isles
Hey guys, I've been making champion concepts with my friends for a while, but this is my first one where I actually tried to suit them to the League world. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Warning, Lore is a brick wall. Gameplay is further down.
Lios “The Keeper of the Isles”
Lore: In the City of Progress, there are a multitude of missions in order to better the world of Runeterra. Many focus on Valoran, however, this was not Lios’ priority. Anyone who knows of the Shadow Isles knows that this land is a blight upon Runeterra; a disgrace, and of the unspeakable horrors that reside there. Many believe that such a place doesn’t exist, but rumors still spread, and a child’s curiosity knows no bounds. Growing up, Lios had always wanted to know more about the Shadow Isles. Supposedly, they were just a rumor, but the more the Lios looked into them, more information would continue to appear before him. It was a taboo subject, however, his parents were constantly busy as Piltovian scientists, and thus there was no-one to stop him from doing as he pleased.
Through his childhood, he’d been held to the standards of his parents. People were disappointed to discover that he wasn’t as talented at techmaturgy as his family, and eventually he became an outcast; a nobody who couldn’t learn techmaturgy in the best city for teaching it. This didn’t stop Lios from learning, however. Though he couldn’t perform techmaturgy, his grades were a little above average, leading to him turning out as an average student as well. He knew he wasn’t apt in using technology, but what truly interested him was the world around him. He realized that if he wanted to be like his idol, Jayce, and become a hero, he’d have to focus on something aside from technology.
When he was old enough, Lios began his independent research with one goal: to fix the Shadow Isles. His parents had left him an inheritance, and though he had no skill with technology, Lios could without a doubt handle himself in the world of business. He became a merchant of sorts, delving into deals of whatever nature might best suit him. Through this channel, he began to buy and sell his way towards his goal. Lios, in time, was able to get his hands on enough money and information to put him into action. Through deals with not-so-trustworthy people, Lios had been able to obtain hextech items that negate magic and experimental technology from Zaun, in hopes of entering the Shadow Isles and survive. He’d also managed to make arrangements for a ship from Bilgewater to take him to the Isles, since only the insane, the hard of money, or others who were looking into the Isles would dare to sail there. Bilgewater had the highest chances, in his opinion, to have any mix of the three.
Upon setting foot on the Isles, he knew something was wrong, but his ride had already abandoned him. He was stuck there, but at least he might be able to learn something, or find what he’d been searching for. Lios began to explore the Shadow Isles, but after a short amount of time, he began to be chased by the predatory spirits of the Isles. Whilst fleeing from the spirits, a strange urge called out to him. He was drawn to some decrepit ruins, in which he took shelter. Once he’d entered the ruins, the entrance became blocked by soil that collapsed in on itself. He was safe for the moment, but the urge to go deeper into the ruins intensified the longer that he stayed inside. Seeing no other choice, Lios made his way further into the ruins.
In the heart of the ruins, he found what he’d been looking for. A tome sat perched upon a pedestal, emitting a purple glow. He knew that this spelled bad news, but he was prepared to handle the grimoire; he’d come prepared with anti-magic and experimental tech for a reason. As he approached the pedestal, the book flipped open to the final page. Lios heard faint whispers in his ears compelling him to read the page aloud. He stood frozen for a moment, afraid to continue, but he knew why he was there, and that he had no other choice at this point. Steeling his nerves, he picked up the tome and read the incomprehensible language engraved on its pages out loud. At that moment, cackling spirits burst from the room and into Lios. He screamed. His purchased technology glowed and shook and buzzed, and then settled after a moment. When all fell silent again, the technology around his body glowed purple. Lios passed out.
When he awoke, his mind was a clutter of different thoughts. His body felt wrong. He went to inspect his arm, only to see it glowing green. He tried to move his body backwards, to recoil in fear, but a mix of other loud thoughts screeched back in response. He was alive, but he was no longer himself, or alone. Every thought he had was answered by multiple others that echoed in his head. He found that he could no longer leave the Black Mist, that they were no longer human, but they hadn’t fully died either. They had not forgotten their original intent, however. They were going to fix the Isles. Rumors say that a male figure can still be seen wandering the Shadow Isles today, one of its eyes glowing green in the sickly moonlight. It’s said that those who encounter this apparition will still live to tell the tale, but who can tell if the legends are real? Those who seek to gain power from the Isles, beware. You won’t like what you’ll find there.
