He is actually the future self of Shirou Emiya who, after years of misery and betrayal, became a Heroic Spirit due to the Beast of Alaya.

Abilities Passive: Reinforcement Gradation Air While in Married Blades stance, EMIYA possesses a counter that goes down with each basic attack. Beginning at 3 (+1 per Projection rank), his attack damage is reduced by 20% (-2% per Projection rank) for 5 seconds when it reaches 0. Broken Phantasm While in Anonymous Bow stance, EMIYA's basic attacks deal 20 (+2 per Projection rank) (+10% AP) bonus magic damage Q: Overedge (Married Blades) Cost: 20/30/40/50/60 mana Cooldown: 7/6/5/4/3 seconds (begins on expiration) EMIYA empowers his dual blades into larger and sharper forms for 5 seconds. During this time his attack damage is increased by 5/10/15/20/25 and his critical chance is increased by 10%. Gradation Air counter still decays with each basic attack Q: Red Hound (Anonymous Bow) Cost: 35/45/55/65/75 mana Cooldown: 10/9/8/7/6 seconds Range: 600/650/700/750/800 EMIYA fires a jagged crimson arrow of energy which pierces through and deals 70/90/110/130/150 (+30% AP) magic damage to all enemy units in its linear trajectory. W: Projection (Married Blades/Anonymous Bow) No cost Cooldown: 6/5/4/3/2 seconds EMIYA can freely switch between Married Blades stance, in which he fights using a pair of oppositely colored short blades in melee range, or Anonymous Bow stance, in which he fights using a long black bow at a range of 500. Resets Gradation Air counter. E: Crane Wing Realm (Married Blades) Cost: 30/40/50/60/70 mana Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 seconds Range: 700 EMIYA hurls his current pair of blades in front of him in an attempt to distract an opponent, if these reach an enemy champion they then bounce off harmlessly as he creates a second pair and rushes forward to deliver a quick X-slash which deals 60/75/90/105/120 (+80% AD) physical damage to the targeted opponent. Gradation Air counter is reset immediately afterward. E: False Helix (Anonymous Bow) Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 mana Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9 seconds Range: 850 EMIYA fires a spiral arrow of golden energy which travels until hitting an enemy unit or reaching the end, where it then proceeds to explode to deal 90/110/130/150/170 (+50% AP) magical damage to all enemy units within a 700 area of effect. R: Unlimited Blade Works Cost: 100 mana Cooldown: 50/70/90 seconds Range: 800/1200/1600 EMIYA passively gains 10/15/20% cooldown reduction. EMIYA creates a circular boundary in an area around himself which he transports into his personal world - his Reality Marble takes on the appearance of a semi-smoggy field with blades embedded into the ground - for 10/12/14 seconds. While within this space no unit, no units (friendly or hostile) can leave nor enter until it expires while EMIYA himself gains 50% cost and cooldown reduction for all of his abilities. EMIYA can also choose to dismiss his Reality Marble while simultaneously dealing 100/140/180 (+50% AD/60% AP) magical and physical damage to all enemy units who were caught within. It is also harmlessly dismissed immediately upon EMIYA's death.
