I figured it'd be fun to open up a discussion about ward skins! ツ
Here's some questions to help get the ball rolling, but feel free to bring up anything else relating to wards that you'd like to talk about!
There should be a way to select ward skins during champ select. Going into the store to choose the ones you want is really wonky.
Since I already have the Riot Fistbump, I don't need any other ward skins ;)
I dislike that all of my wards (green, pink, yellow) all have to look the same. I dislike that I cannot select which ward skin I want in champion select. I dislike the small pool of champion themed ward skins.
I like that more and more of them are being released. I like when you guys include a ward skin for an event.
Ideas for ward skins: -Poro obviously -Faction flags (Demacia, Noxus, etc) -Something that represents skin lines (commando, headhunter, etc) -Mini-Dragon/Baron
1- They are way too expensive.
2- You should be able to select which ward skin you want to use at the same time you pick which champion skin you want to use in a game.
Definitely not wards ward skin!! they have mustaches and glasses with a fake nose xD it would be so funny
Here is the biggest issue with ward skins.
#THERE ARE NO OPTIONS TO BUY THEM WITH IP
The fact that I have almost 30k sitting in my bank and these ward skins just sitting there gathering dust is upsetting. I don't care if they have to be 10k or something, just let me have the option for getting these skins with a large amount of IP so I don't have these huge bulks of IP taking up my account.
As for ward concepts?
It would also be nice to be able to gift friends ward skins!
We need more champion based ward skins. Specifically for supports, at least since they're the role expected to buy the most wards. I'd personally be happy if there were a Lulu-based one, with a little Pix on it or something.
Now I got that out of the way: What I like about Ward Skins, is that it could add more 'personality' to you as a player. Say you're a huge Soraka fan and you want to show it, you'd buy the Starcall ward, so you can show how much of a fan you are even if you're not at the moment playing Soraka. Also, it might provide an incentive for players to buy more wards throughout a game, since you just got a cool new Ward Skin to show off (Specifically if said ward skin was based off of your favorite champion: I cannot stress enough how much I want more champion based ward skins).
They can also, like certain champion skins have been in the past (The Victorious Skins, for instance), be something of a pride thing: I recall there being a ward skin for being gold or above (I think) last Season, or if you go to a convention and you get a ward skin. Because of how it works, you can show off this little achievement of yours (Making a certain rank/visiting a convention/etc) no matter what champion you play, since wards are a universal thing. As opposed to if the reward/gift was just a skin for a specific champion: You couldn't show off if you never played said champion.
I can't say there's much I 'dislike' about the idea of ward skins (Besides not enough champion-based ones RITO PLLZZZ!), but at the same time, I do feel like they might be a bit expensive when they're worth RP, and if you're playing a role that doesn't buy a lot of wards, or just a player that doesn't buy wards in general, even if you have a ward skin you really like the look of, it might not be worth the cost to you. (EDIT: And as others mentioned, being able to change ward skins in champion select would be a welcome feature.)
As for Ward Ideas that DON'T include the much-needed champi-[Redacted for getting annoying], I've seen quite a lot of people demanding a Poro-based ward skin. I'm fairly happy with the Fist Bump Ward skin I have now (Thank you, Lyte C=), and pretty proud of having it in general, so I can't think of a specific 'theme' or something that I'd enjoy having more besides... well, you get the picture.
Although you could also consider bundling a ward skin with whatever the new ultimate skin will when comes out, that'd be pretty cool.
EDIT: I keep editing this, and I'm sorry, but I kept thinking of some ideas. Another idea I'd like to through out, would be faction-based ward skins, specifically ones of the various City-States of Valoran, like how there was a Shurima ward for the event. I could see this coming out if you ever had a lore event of Demacia vs. Noxus, or Zaun vs. Piltover, or the like, for players to show their support for a specific faction.
I would like to be able to cycle through different wards during a game. Like I have a set of 3 and they just place in whatever would be the next one.
Also, it'd be awesome if champion-themed wards had a voice line. Rammus says "Ok", Amumu says "Hey, come back!", Draven says "Not Draven, Draaaaaaveeeenn", etc.
I would like it if you could unlock champion-specific wards after playing that champion a number of times.
I'd like the ability to use one ward skin for vision wards and a completely different one for sight wards.

Animated wards might be nice, if perhaps confusing (they could be used to bait out skill shots). What I would like is to be able to select different skins for different types of wards (yellow trinket, green and pink wards).
My suggestion: From now on, give every new champion you make his own ward skin and include it in the "champion + skin" bundle which comes out with the new champions, then add skins for all the other champions, a bunch at a time, until everybody has "his" ward.
I like the variety in Ward Skins, however, there could always be more.
As it stands. I believe the Riot Fist Bump ward skin and the Mecha ward skin are the best so far. The reason why I believe is the overall look and animation.
I agree with everything that has been said previously, including that a way to select the ward skin in Champion Select would be awesome! Sometimes I forget that you have to go into the shop to change it.
The only thing I dislike is that the Riot Fist Bump ward skin is difficult to get your hands on. I REALLY want it, but it seems like the only way to get it is at special events, which usually don't take place near where I live. So a purchasable option, even for a limited of time, would be wonderful.
Some suggestions I have are:
1. More ward skins that go with sets of skins or are related to specific champions. (Similar to the Draven and Starcall ward skins)
I like to buy things in bundles if possible and if there was a ward skin released in a bundle with a set of skins, it's an insta-buy for me and I'm sure a lot of players that buy the bundles would agree.
A good example would be an Arcade Ward Skin. Have it be a miniature arcade machine or the Final Boss Veigar trophy that Miss Fortune is holding in her splash art.
Another good one would be a Pool Party Ward Skin that is a beach ball, inflatable tube or surfboard sticking out of the ground.
2. Ward skins that randomize in a set upon being placed. (A Legendary Ward Skin kind of)
For example, if there was a Taric Gem ward skin and I bought it. When I place it in-game have it randomize between looking like a Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, Opal, ect. So every time I place the ward, it rotates between them for variety.
They could even be priced slightly higher because of this effect. I'de say around 1,000 RP would be sufficient?
3. Ward skins that you can only buy when you hit certain ranks. (You could have them look like the medals on the profile screen)
If you're in Bronze offer a Bronze ward skin in the shop that is purchasable for RP or 5-10k IP, but when you get to Silver, allow the players to purchase the Silver version for another 5-10k IP, then Gold, Plat, ect.
So that you can show off the highest rank you've achieved as a ward skin and give a little more use for IP (Because right now in my opinion, there isn't a lot to buy with IP once you have all the champs aside from runes and rune pages, so this will give a little more use for it.)
Plus I think Diamond or Challenger ward skins would look awesome!

We should be able select what ward skin we want to use in champion select. Also, another idea would be to let us pick different skins for sight and vision wards.
The only problem i had with the ward skins is not being able to use diferent ones for diferent wards... i would like to use a diferent pink ward.
And ward ideas... Well it would be cool little interactions with the players, like the joke debuff of the ninjas, for example: Imagine we get a Lunari ward Skin (GREAT IDEA RIOT DO IT) and im using diana, if i land a Q in the lunari skin it would be cool if starts glowing (Woah, shiny), or if we are using leona in a plant themed ward he grow a little. You know, something just aestetic.
Wards fade.. I barely notice my sad mummy sitting in a bush... If I barely notice it, how will friendly Amumu see it or appreciate it?!?! 😞
I would love a disco ball ward, one that spins and shoots off all different kinds of light rays. .. I am sure

As it has been said before, being able to pick your ward skin in champion select would be great! It's an unnecessary hassle to have to go through the store to do it, it prevents last-minute changes to go with your champion/skin/team, and it means we tend to not change them ever even when, like me, we own quite a few of them.
maybe have them also be bought for a large amount of IP? they don't seem grand enough to be RP exclusive.

i honestly feel like they are way over priced costing more than some champ skins is silly imo its probably not something you really care about tho just figured id put it out there
also even tho i will probably never buy a ward skin for the price they are now if i did id want to be able to use multiple ones at once for normal wards stealth wards and trinket wards each
as for ward skin ideas i want a janna ward skin maybe her little birdy or a small whirlwind jsut more champ based wards skin in general even if i dont buy them (might buy a janna one even overpriced) they would be cool to see from other players
I really like how ward skins allow my champion to feel cohesive. When I play Haunted Zyra for example I use the Tomb Angel ward, while I use the Shurima Crest ward with Azir. It makes it seem more complete to have that overarching theme.
For this reason I'd love to see ward skins for other champions/factions. It'd be awesome to see Garen and Darius facing off and killing each others Demacia and Noxus wards. I'd also love a Diana/Leona ward set. The rivalry has always been one of my favourite lore points, and you could even track ward sales to see if the Solari are beating the 'Heretics' or not.

I /like/ Ward Skins, but I don't feel like that Wards are seen enough to justify paying for one (that being said, I have the S3 Championship Ward, and Harrowing Ghost Ward)
I really want an Anivia Ward (maybe her egg passive :D) but I know that won't happen since she ins't popular ;~;
but yes, overall I think the character themed wards are my favorites

I think ward skins may be a tad expensive for what they are, Also What about city crests as a skin? like the Demacian crest or Ionia or Noxus or something like a pool party ward for when your a full pool party or pentakill or maybe a role ward such as a ADC ward or a mid Ward and maybe a ward that has an animation? like the pentakill ward could have Morde's head spin around. I think something along those lines would be cool, something that represents what you love in league, a faction or a role etc. :D
I like how cute most of them are. I dislike how they sit not only in a bush all game but also with the invisible aura around them. This makes me never notice even my own ward skin.
As somebody who has found ward skins something fun to collect, I'm disappointed that we can only use one ward skin at a time. I'd like it if we could assign one ward skin for green wards and one for pink wards. Of course, if a player wants to, they could select the same for both types. You could possibly even do a third type for trinket wards. Or maybe even let a player choose a set of wards from their inventory, and it shuffles between them at random in game.
Themed wards aligned with different factions. Wards which match a team skin: so beach party ward, etc.
Lots of great suggestions already. I think in addition to being able to pick ward skins at champ select it would be cool if we could choose Summoner icons too, so that they can fit thematically with a player's champion, champion skin, and ward skin.
But more specific to the point of this thread, ward skins that are based on Summoner icons would be awesome. Morellonomicon, anyone? Bonus if it plops down on a stand and opens (as its placement animation).
I really like the wards you've been releasing lately! I felt myself wanting the new Rammus one. My only issue with the ward skins right now though is their price. I currently own none, and it's solely because 600 seems like a lot. I would probably buy several if they were a lower price.
I really want a tibbers one, and one with A little nine tailed fox on it for ahri! and maybe one with caitlyns hat, and or PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the lunar revel stick with chinese lanterns one! I REALLY WANT IT!
Has anyone mentioned the concerns about ward skins altering the game?
For example, if you see an enemy Mecha ward drop on the map (but can't see who dropped it), you know which enemy champion is there just out of your sight...if you know who has which skins.
So if you're bot, you probably know what ward skins both opposing laners have. Which means you know whether the person hidden from you is the marksman (run!) or the support (kill him!).
Likewise, some ward skins are easier to see than others.
This means that if you pick the right ward skin, the odds of some **enemy noticing your pink ward **as they hurry past are smaller.
Not WAY smaller. But like the puny impact of many masteries, enough to make a tiny difference that does matter.
I've seen MANY enemies clip a bush with a pink ward in it, but not notice, and others who did notice, often so narrowly that they had to come back to get it. The right ward skin is going to alter the proportions of those hits and misses.
