Mastery 7 on Old Models of Reworked Champions

From my own time playing League, I've noticed I myself and many others have had an experience in which we set aside a significant amount of time mastering a champion. Sometimes, after reaching mastery seven on that champ (recent example: Evelynn), she or he is reworked. Summoners will then essentially have mastery 7 on a new champion they've never played before. I think it would be neat if when a champion is completely reworked, summoners with mastery 7 on that champion would lose the blue badge and emote until they've earned it on the new, reworked champion. Of course, all of the work put into getting mastery 7 on the old champion model shouldn't be forgotten. Players who earned mastery 7 on the old model would be awarded an icon or some other symbol of mastery. Evelynn

Question: Where is the line? When is a rework big enough to reset your mastery and when it isn't?

For example: While not being a complete VGU, the tank update Sejuani received was pretty big and makes her feel like a new champion. Should Sejuani get resetted?

Aatrox is going to be the next gameplay update and supposed to be the biggest to date. Does he reset? How about Xin Zhao and Rek'Sai? Their updates were not that big, but changed their playstyle quite alot. For example, Rek'Sai got moved from a prime tank build to more damage focused.

This is the main concern I have about this. There is no clear line between "reworked enough to make it reset" and "similar enough to stay". It will make the resets feel completely arbitrary, something I wouldn't feel comfortable with.

"We know you put a lot of time and 1300 essence to get your champion to mastery 7, but we don't care so we'll just take all that away from you because the champions abilities function a little different now. Don't worry, you'll be compensated with another icon that you’ll probably never use.”

Somehow I don't see that going very well

I mean, there is a way to make this work. Just give a Champion Permanent token for masteries 6 and 7 and revert them to 5. You still keep your basic mastery, but have to earn the advanced masteries again, which are free except for time since you can use the champion permanents instead of BE.
