Why does riot ruin champions rather than balance others?

I have been a brand main for as long as I have played the game and he finally got a huge buff with the new deathfire touch mastery and then riot proceeded to nerf him into the ground. yet have buffed fizz and zed, why does riot always do this, I understand that many people have mains, and brand may not be high on the popularity list, but why continue to nerf champions that have seen so little play through out the years? you would imagine that they would be happy to see new champions being played not only succumb to the meta the same way so many players do. I have always enjoyed playing outside of the meta and have always had fun doing so, and I know there are many other players like me. I would just love any form of explanation as to why they need to ruin so many players experiences with the game instead of diversifying it. so please riot, please explain your need to make the most op champions more op and the lesser played champions less played. PLEASE explain why

Speaking VERY generally, champions that are less played are made weak because there's something about their gameplay that's problematic. To take Brand as an example, he really has no niche; he's picked when his numbers are the highest among AoE damage mages, and when they're not, there's no reason to pick him outside of personal preference. The flip side of that coin, however, is that when Brand DOES do the most damage of any AoE mages, there's no reason to pick anything ELSE, outside of personal preferences. That's why Brand has been nerfed in recent patches.

I don't know why you're talking about Fizz; the only changes he's gotten were nerfs to make AD Fizz less relevant. Zed is currently recieving nerfs, actually.

Brands biggest problem is when he's good he breaks, and when he's not good others do his job better. Finding the balance is an act of getting to the middle ground with out ruining his game play.

Brand is supposed to be a midlaner. However, his base damages are so high that he can be support - not even build like a mid laner - and still have the highest damage in the game. Giving the utility of a support, with the damage of a fed midlaner when he doesn't actually require any resources is fairly ridiculous.
