Ping in client

I know this idea get brought up many times before, but Riot might need to add this since we are having a new client. I couldn't think of any down side of this idea, so adding this feature will save a lot of time for people who need to check their pings by creating a custom game and stuffs. It will avoid people unknowingly going to a game and have bad pings. Riot Plz! http://imgur.com/1nenZ6V

Edit: I saw comments about server and client bounces back and forth, so I thought why don't we have an option for it.

The reason why is because not everyone has problem with pings, and it's easier for Riot. Less data transitions and stuffs.

Yeah I'm not sure if this is even possible, because I don't think you are actually on the server until you are in game.

Type in: ping 104.160.131.1 in cmd on PC

ping 104.160.131.1 on MAC

I think the reason why Riot doesn't want this is that a ton of people will be pinging the servers constantly. But I don't really know much about servers, it's really the only reason I can think of.

ya know what i don't know why riot doesn't put this in if it causes lag then just put in a check ping button and make it a little app you get as a pop out to the client wouldn't cause lag since its technically going into the game lag but if for some reason you don't have time to wait for the game to load in a custom this is a great alternative

People have only asked for this since release.

Yeah, this would be super useful when you don't know if your pc will crap itself during a game.

Instead of having a check option, just have a button on the home screen that says "Check Ping" and let it show for about 30 seconds or so, then give it an hour cooldown. Some people would just casually flip on their ping check out of ignorance or just to add more lag to Rito Servers.

And imagine how easy it would be for someone to organize a shutdown if that were the case - Bots were already running rampant and adding people as friends. Imagine if someone orchestrated a large bot wave of about ~ 100,000 (Unlikely, but still something to consider), everyone's connection would be lowered by a lot, as there's about 650,000 games a day, which means about 6,500,000 players play at any single time. A one million increase would put some dent on the servers.

And let's say some people turned on the ping check that weren't bots, an example being 1,000,000.

That's 7,600,000 people from 6,500,000.

Even if it wouldn't affect it that much, if you were getting 5 - 10 less ping, would you complain?

Why not just load into custom. Cs for five minutes and see for yourself. Takes 10 minutes to warm up, practice, and see for real what your ping is and if it's stable.

agreed, while some find it distracting I like having those numbers up there.

Lol why do u need this on the client

Sassmast3r11/8/2015, 2:07:48 AM1 votes

Oh my god yes! However, you can always just run a trace route to their servers, which is pretty fast too, instead of having to start a custom game. But yes, if they added this, it would be so much easier and save me a good 5-10 minutes of time spent trying to connect, disconnect, etc, all just to see if my connection is good enough to play.

I saw a thread like this one a couple months ago (post server move), I believe it was a rioter who said that this will create a lot of lag on their servers because of the client constantly bouncing back and forth. maybe with the new client, built from the ground up, could accommodate an easier way to do this without the continually pinging the server

My ping is MIA at the moment
