Ivy, the Piltover Vigilante (New Champion Concept)
Had this one sitting around for a while, just thought I'd share for fun. Enjoy :)
Key Stats
Range – 550 MS – 325
General Ivy starts with 1 point already in her Ultimate ability and her ultimate only has 1 rank (switches form). Instead her basic abilities each have 6 ranks. Her ability cooldowns are shared regardless of whether she switches form.
Overview I wanted to explore form switching champions a bit and see if I could find something that worked. Currently there are a few aspects of form switching that I don't like. Firstly abilities should share a cooldown when switching, this stops the Elise scenario of just having a 6 skill burst combo at level 3, which can be a balancing nightmare. Secondly I feel each form should have a distinct purpose for it being used. This was explored with Jayce moreso I think but still feels a little lacking.
This concept revolves around the idea of one form being the builder for resources, while the other form is the finisher. It has somewhat of a slower paced playstyle, with resources slowly needing to be built up through basic attacking. The abilities at this point are more focused on PvE interactions and mobility, and less damage or direct survival options. Then once you have a decent pool of resource to play with you can threaten to unleash it and gain access to much more powerful attacks.
This is further enhanced by allowing the player to invest in future encounters by placing down small objects on the map while in your builder form. This drains a chunk of your resource but can then provide you with a way of recovering resources even while using your finisher form later on. In this way you can actually sustain through large teamfights without dropping out of your damage focused finisher form, if you properly set up the map beforehand.
The aim was to make the character playable as either jungle or adc. However, no doubt it may also end up quite successful as a ranged top laner.
Abilities
Passive:
Power Cores – Ivy has 3 Power Cores that can each contain 5 charge. These cells can be charged and drained by her attacks and abilities. Fully charged Cores are placed in reserve and can be seen by the enemy under her healthbar.
Power Arm - Ivy has a complex, rusty, mechanical right arm with many straps and cables running through to a set of power cores strapped to a belt across her chest.
Charge Mode Ivy gains a small Attack Speed bonus and throws small leeching bots at her enemies with her unarmoured left arm when she basic attacks. These do no initial damage and cannot crit, but instead will drain the target over time dealing 80% basic attack damage over 3 seconds (doubled vs minions and monsters). At the end of this duration or when the target dies, the bots will return to Ivy granting her 1 charge to her active Power Core. (stacks indefinitely as fast as she can basic attack)
Power Mode Ivy fires a large plasma cannon attached to her armoured right arm when she basic attacks. These attacks deal normal basic attack damage but additionally ignore a percentage of the targets armour. Each attack immediately drains 1 charge from her active Power Core.
Q: Charge Mode - No cost, 8 second cooldown Ivy recalls all currently active leeching bots, causing them to immediately deal any remaining damage and slow the target by 30/40/50/60/70/80% for 1 second. This ability is cast for free when Power Mode is activated.
Any charge that would have been gained from these leeching bots is lost.
Power Mode - 1 Power Core, 8 second cooldown, 550 range; 200 radius Ivy overloads her Plasma Cannon spewing a large blob of plasma onto the ground for 5 seconds. The plasma field inflicts Plasma Burn on enemies, dealing base damage + x% bonus AD physical damage over 3 seconds. This effect can stack up to x times. At x stacks the target is stunned for 1 second.
W: Charge Mode - 1 Power Core, No cooldown, 200 range Ivy places a small, inactive generator on the ground. The generator is visible and targetable while inactive. Generators will last until destroyed or all their charge is consumed.
When active the generators gain a small impenetrable shield making them untargetable and each one within 600 units of Ivy will become linked to her increasing her AD by 5/10/15/20/25/30. Additionally, each linked Generator will syphon 1 charge back to her active Power Core every second second. This will not occur if she hits maximum charge (nearest Generator will lose charge first).
Power Mode - 1 Power Core, No cooldown Ivy gains a small shield each time an active Generator provides her with charge. The shield decays over 3 seconds. Lasts for 2 seconds.
E: 15/14/13/12/11/10 second cooldown Ivy performs an acrobatic leap a short distance pausing briefly as she lands. Issuing an attack or movement command will end the ability at this point.
Charge Mode On landing, Ivy can reactivate this ability to leap a second time in a different direction.
Power Mode On landing, Ivy can reactivate this ability to fire a charged plasma shot in a target direction knocking back the first target hit. This attack consumes 1 Power Core dealing base damage + x% bonus AD physical damage.
R: Charge Mode – No cost; 10 second cooldown on entering Charge Mode (passive) Ivy's basic attacks generate 1 charge.to her active Power Core. (passive) Ivy gains 30% bonus Attack Speed.
Power Mode - No cost, 1 second cooldown when entering Power Mode (passive) Ivy gains 25% bonus armour penetration. (passive) Ivy's basic attacks consume 1 charge from her active Power Core. (passive) All nearby Generators become active (1000 range). (passive) When first activated, Ivy’s Charged Mode Q ability is triggered for free, immediately recalling all leeching bots to her.
Power Mode will last until no charge is left in Ivy's Power Cores or until the ability is toggled off.
Backstory
In another life, with her fair looks and outstanding IQ, she could easily have been destined for the highest echelons of Piltover society. Unfortunately, the life she fell into had no intention of letting her off so easily.
The child was thrown from home to home from the moment she was born, slowly sinking into the darkest corners of the city. The day she learned to walk, was the day she learned to run. Fleeing from beatings, fleeing from pain, fleeing from judgemental eyes, fleeing from wandering hands.
Thankfully, even the worst that life could throw at her was not enough to outwit the young girl. She quickly adapted to life on the streets, cutting her hair short and staying out of sight, she was able to survive with minimal attention floating her way.
Over the years her small frame caused her to rely heavily on her mind, quietly manipulating from the shadows. She became an expert tactician, often spending hours dreamily planning out how to distort the world around her to stay alive. Around her 9th year, however, she was reminded of how quickly the tides could turn if caught out. In a chance encounter, she found death smiling upon her. But even death can be outwitted if you anticipate his every move...
She escaped the encounter alive, but was forced to leave one arm behind as a souvenir; her fingers curled into an unsightly gesture of defiance.
It was due to this encounter, however, that her life took a somewhat unexpected turn. Living on the street is hard enough, but surviving with only one arm was not an option. The girl submerged herself in research on how to replace her lost appendage. It was during this time that she discovered the identity of one, who would quickly become an idol in her eyes. Vi, the Piltover Enforcer. Her great fists capable of striking down entire buildings! The idea that someone such as herself would be capable of such a feat had never occurred to her. In all of her short years, life had tried to forcibly teach her one consistent lie: she was weak. For the first time, the concept that she could stand strong without hiding in the shadows, took root. A change that would alter the lives of many.
It wasn't long before crude metal fingers wriggled at the pinnacle of the girls right arm. But it was never enough. For the first time, no matter how far she gazed, she could not see the bottom of the well of information that stood before her. And thirstily she drank.
Oddly, although her sometimes dream-like consciousness was capable of delving into problems most cannot even fathom, her compulsion to think 20 steps ahead could often result in her missing the obvious that stood in front of her face. One might be forgiven for thinking she was a bit of a clutz, despite the reality being quite the opposite. Often in her hours of contemplation she would find herself lying on the floor having tripped and fell, her stomach growling angrily from lack of nourishment. But such is the way of one who has an absolute concentration for the problem at hand.
Indeed on one fateful act of such foolishness, on the eve of her great reveal to the world, surrounded by gadgets and traps only the greatest of minds could imagine, the young teen/closet fangirl sat happily before a mirror with a small needle tattooing her face. A picture of her idol VI sat before her with the famous tattoo down the left cheek, and she grinned as she penned herself an identical design, her mind endlessly travelling over her plans and missing her simple mistake.
The next day, criminals across the city described to authorities as they sat in custody how what appeared to be a young girl with short cropped hair and goggles, power cables and belts wrapped about her with one strange metal arm had somehow melted their weapons in a mad flash of light as they chased her down an alleyway.
The only clue to her identity was a tattoo, inked across her right cheek. The letters IV.
In the main offices of the city. News of this Ivy, the Piltover Vigilante eventually reached the ears of one well known Enforcer. Punching her desk into the lower floors, a snarl could be heard stating simply that vigilantes would not be tolerated...
