I want to buy a single color (long read, worth your time).

I want to share that I don't understand why I can't buy a single color for my character. I do understand that you should pay for any aesthetic content; this is game is free after all and Riot needs to make profits. However, I don't think the way colors are being sold is the most effective one. Let me start with the good thing:

Chroma packs are good

Making aesthetic content available is good for any game, and Chroma packs are certainly no exception. In the case of League of Legends, it is important for us to understand that one of the biggest reasons why the game continues to be free is the profits they make with skins and colors. We have to accept that any type of extra content in this game will cost us, so let's now move on to the bad thing.

Chroma packs are not good if I'm not able to get a single color

Why I'm not able to get a single color has been bugging my mind for hours, and I've concluded that it makes little sense because of a single little fact: Most people think that it's not worth paying 590 RP for 3 colors. This has become clear to me because since their release I haven't seen a lot of people using different colors; however, ever since the new PROJECT skins were released I see at least 10 PROJECT skins per day. Why is this happening? Because even though PROJECT skins cost significantly more than chroma packs, people are willing to spend money on skins because they believe it's worth it. So at this point we can agree with the following problem: We can only get colors by buying them, but most of us don't find Chroma packs worth our money. Let's talk about how to fix this problem.

My suggestion for a possible solution

Make it possible for you to get a single color. Hypothetically speaking now, let's say that you can get a color for 250 RP. If I wanted to buy one of the three colors available for Zac, I'd just have to pay 250 RP; however, if I wanted all three colors I would have to pay 750 RP. Now that's a little bit too much for just three colors, so that's why Chroma packs should be available in conjunction with single colors, because if i want all three colors instead of just one, I have the option of spending 590 RP for my Chroma pack. Furthermore, if I wanted just two colors i'd have to pay 500 RP which is still less than 590 RP, but with Chroma packs that would mean that for just 90 RP more I can get another color. It is similar to the "buy one get the other for 50% off" promotion we see in a lot of places. This is one of the most basic and common examples of promotion. Let me remind you that all these prices are hypothetical; I'm not here to talk about prices, and the information that Riot uses to select their prices is beyond my field of knowledge.

" Ok I understand, but still, how could Riot benefit from selling single colors?"

It is clear to me that people will not buy 650 RP just to get a single color, but ultimately here is why having the option of getting a single color is very important: If the option of getting a color for (around) 250 RP existed, people would have more content available when they purchase RP. Allow me to use myself as an example. I recently bought 1380 RP to get a skin. Adding what I had left after my purchase with a little left-over RP I had, I now have a balance of 430 RP. There is almost nothing I can get with that amount, but If only I could get a single color I would definitely get it. Because now I'm stuck in this kind of RP limbo in which even though I purchased RP, I cannot find anything else I'd like to buy. Why does it have to be this way? Obviously I'm not going to purchase 590 RP just to get a color, so if three colors are worth 590, why can't I just get one if I already have 430? Honestly, it doesn't make any sense to me, unless Riot is purposely creating these RP-limbos that force players to purchase extra RP to get what they want. If that was the case, I wouldn't be surprised.

In conclusion, I think that if the option existed, more people would be more willing to purchase RP because more content would be available to them. Please share what you think.

I agree... This is basically what I told Riot when they sent me a survey about the chroma skins I bought.

In all seriousness though, I agree. And it would be even better if they could make it so you could get a single color for 250 RP and then have the exact same color but the champion's abilities are changed to go with that color and have that cost 750 RP.

I would support this as well. I'd love to have a less expensive option to be able to play the blue Bard of Happiness. Bard

Thank you all for your opinions. I honestly believe that Riot is doing something wrong here.

"It is also possible that consumers will view the quality of the items in the bundle less favorably when they are bundled. They may attribute the fact that the manufacturer or retailer is offering a promotion to low product quality and a high risk of not being satisfied with the purchase (see Sawyer and Dickson 1984), or** react negatively to a promotion that seems unnecessary**"

I'm doing research on consumer's response to promotions, and this is certainly an example of how ineffective promotion can lower the quality we perceive about the product.
