Skin Reward System?

Everyone in League knows, that having a skin makes you shine brighter in the role of your champion. Everyone loves skins, but some people just don't have the spare money to buy RP for skins,. I was thinking of the possibility of a Champion progression scale of some sort to allow the unlocking of one skin by becoming extremely good at a certain champion, as a sort of way of showing a person's mastery of a champion with a 'Mastery' skin. Basically a special skin for every champion showing one's skill playing them. You can still buy cool skins, but this would be a show of skill not style. I love skins, but I find it hard to spend RP on them because I can spend it on a new champion, and expand my play style. So what do you guys think? Should this be a cool new thing for the game we know and love?

I doubt Riot would be willing to create over 100 skins out of nowhere just for something that doesn't even make them any profit.

The most likely thing would be recolors but even those are currently being discussed as an alternative option to spend RP on. So you see, there's no way to acquire free skins besides those very few special events on social media.

Why not simply settle for a free summoner icon featuring the face of said champion? That'd be a lot more likely. But even that has been suggested since several years already, without any official response so far.

They could re-release old skins for the place of it

I like the idea of icons!

Though not necessarily over 100 skins... For a mastery skin, I would anticipate it being some of the more difficult champions in the game to learn. Ryze Mastery skin? Let's be real.

Anivia, Cass, Corki, Elise, Cho'Gath, Ezreal, Fizz, Janna, Jayce, Jinx, Karma, Karthus, Kass, Kha'Zix, Kog'Maw, Leblanc, Lee Sin, Liss, Lucien, Lulu, Nami, Nidalee, Orianna, Poppy, Quinn, Rumble, Shaco, Syndra, Thresh, Twisted Fate, Twitch, Urgot, Vayne, Vel'Koz, Viktor, Yasuo, Zed, Zyra would be a good list (Taken from their difficulty ratings. These are the champs who are 7/10 or higher.) For reference, I put Italicized the champs who were rated 7/10 just in case you wanted to tighten down the range a little.

why do people keep trying to get free stuff? I do not get it.

Skins pay for the game. Stop asking for free stuff.

This could actually work... I would Love to get my hands on a Mastery Ezreal and Caitlyn

never going to happen.

Free to play does not mean free to skin.

And suddenly he realizes how weird that sounded.

It could work, but I would see riot doing as re-color of the base skins in some specific pattern, so you know it's a "mastery skin", doing actual value skin for it would be a bit much to ask, imo.

I know Smite does something like this, and their skins are pretty good. I think this could be a good idea if implemented properly.

Heroes of the Storm has something similiar to this suggestion if you play X amount of games with a certain hero you unlock re-colors of the hero, and in hearthstone play a certain hero in 500 rank games you get a golden potrait. Something similar in league would be nice as a small reward like the season end rank skins and borders, say win 100 games as a champion get the recolored default skin, or summoner icons. A nice little show of faith from Riot for all the time we sink into their lovely game. :D

also this probably wouldn't put a dent into Riots profits people will buy that flashy new skin regardless or a free one.

In a way, that's kind of what Victorious skins are. Since you have to reach a certain rank and are rewarded at the end of the season for the skill you've had in reaching gold or higher.

They do have "mastery" type ranking in the game SMITE though, where you play the champs and gain points towards mastery levels, which then allow you to unlock (in-game currency) or buy (money) Golden and Legendary Skins.
