Yorick rework idea

If you are like me, when you get yorick, your expecting to do damage but are sadly disappointed that he doesn't fit the expectations. Trying to do a decent burst is a bit hard unless you are a yorick main who knows how to qwe people to death in 2 seconds. I myself am an illaoi main. One night I was playing illaoi and my brother said "hey, what do you think of Illaoi's tentacles" which I responded with "they are like Yorick's ghouls done right" which got the both of us thinking. So we started brainstorming about the old champ and got a good kit to send into riot. While looking for a idea submission location, we discovered the reworks page which had taric on it, possibly an upcoming mage, and, to our sadness, a Yorick rework. I'm still determined to get this idea out. Some of the flaws I had a problem with was everytime I summoned a ghoul, they just dint do what I wanted them to do, they would run off and be unruly, they died too quick they where slow, and the entire champ needed a complete visual overhaul along with a complete skill rework.

Yorick, the ghoul commander

Yorick does not work off a mana bar but instead a 3 ghoul ammo bar. Every time a ghoul is summoned, it takes a chunk from the ammo bar and takes 30 seconds to recharge the ammo. Recalling does not reset the ammo bar.

Passive: Pyrric victory- every time a ghoul dies, yorick gets a speed boost for 10 seconds (40% speed boost). Yorick also gains 4 permanent stacks of "loss" that gives yorick attack damage upon a ghouls death (the ghouls do not have access to these).

Abilities Summon omen of war: yorick summons a flying specter armed with a magic baton. This ghoul has vision and a distanced basic attack. This unit has 3 grey health boxes(it takes only 3 hits to kill them) this ghoul attacks deal (35/40/55/60/65)(+) magic damage Cost: 1 ammo chunk Spawn range from yorick: 400

Command omen of war: York's commands omen of war to fly to a location of selection and start attacking enemies and focusing champions if spotted.

This ghoul will return to yorick if yorick leaves the ghouls radius or if the ghoul leaves it's own radius. Once the skill is started yorick gets a buff called "war's attention" this buff can be coupled with the attention of the other ghouls. All the ghouls who are paying attention go to a location on yorick's comand. Each ghoul is worth 10 gold on death. Cool down time: 3 seconds, all ranks(starts after the omen gets to location) Command distance from yorick: 1250

Summon omen of pestilence: yorick summons a ghoul that stands on its back legs with long claws off its arms. This ghoul is si gnificantly faster than all the others and Yorick (starting speed at 410/425/430/435/440) (omen of pestilence's speed cannot be increased by a external source). This ghoul has 5 health blocks Cost: 1 ammo chunk Spawn range from yorick: 400

Command omen of pestilence: yorick commands this omen to chase down an enemy. Once he catches the enemy, this omen applies a slow (40%) on cast, and deals 40/45/50/55/60 (+) attack damage. It then receives an exhausted debuff. the debuff will last for 10 seconds in this time the ghoul can't slow any enemies. If it applies the slow to a minion, it will keep attacking the minion then continue to another minion if another minion is close by. Omen of pestilence will keep attacking unless commanded to fight a another enemy.

This ghoul will return to yorick if yorick leaves the ghouls radius or if the ghoul leaves it's own radius. Once the skill is started yorick gets a buff called "pestilences's attention" this buff can be coupled with the attention of the other ghouls. All the ghouls who are paying attention go to a location on yorick wish. Each ghoul is worth 10 gold on death Cool down: 3 seconds, all ranks(starts after the omen gets to location) Command distance from yorick:1250

Summon omen of famine: yorick summons a ghoul that looks like a worm with 2 arms and a face full of teeth. This ghoul has 4 health blocks. Cost: 1 ammo chunk Spawn distance from yorick: 400

Command omen of famine: this ghoul has moderate speed but gives life back to yorick with every hit (5/10/15/20/25%) and shreds armor(50/55/60/65/70) and magic resist(50/55/60/65/70). it also does (60/65/70/75/80) (+) attack damage with every hit.

Each ghoul is worth 10 gold on death Cool down: 3 seconds, all ranks(starts after the omen gets to location) Command distance from yorick: 1250

Omen of death: Yorick swings his lantern buffing 1 of his 3 ghouls or himself. If Yorick casts his ultimate on a minion, the minion gets a special increase of effect based on the minion it is cast on. When cast on a minion, the ultimate has a 30 second cool down. If he buffs himself, his next basic attack increases his stacks by double for one hit. If Yorick kills an enemy champion with this ultimate, he receives 10 stacks of loss and the enemies death animation is replaced with a tombstone. Then his ultimate has a cool down time of 90 seconds. Distance to cast from yorick: 600

Omen of war: 75 % attack speed buff and true vision for 10 seconds

Omen of pestilence: the slow is replaced with a 1 second stun that refreshes every 5 seconds and the ghoul gets 60 more movement speed for 10 seconds

Omen of famine: increase all current debuffs of armor and magic resist shred 15% for 10 seconds

All 3 ghouls work a bit off of oriana's ball's style. They can be triggered pointed to another direction. Like oriana's ball, they can be commanded to run to a location and do work there while others are busy fighting on other fronts. A bit of a multi tasking ideology, having to think not just of yourself but of the ghouls as well. They can also be set up in a ganking formation to get the jump on the enemy but the player has to keep in mind of the ghouls radius. The ghouls also have unit collision and do not ignoring walls. The player could trade the ghoul for more attack damage and the speed buff but has to deal with the fact that he is not getting that ghoul back for 30 seconds. All 3 ghouls move like azirs q but can click an enemy so right when they get to the location, they fight their objective.

Hopefully this idea gets to good readers and get some feedback on this, if riot rework this minion commanding grave digger, I would play yorick a lot more.

This is a good kit. The control over the minions has always been a problem from what I had seen. This would be a very much needed update.

that will get nerfed so fast once there are more people bitching on the forums like they are with fiora. then he will be the current unknown yorick again

I actually feel that Yorick actually does a lot of damage. It's not hard to EW auto Q auto in less than 2 sec at all, and if you decide to build damage instead of Tear (run flat mana glyphs and mana regen mastery) then you are going to notice you hit like a truck earlier and scale into midgame with CDR, armor, and health better. If you are like me you'll solve your movespeed issue with earlier boots of swiftness (which incidentally really help with most laning opponents to the point that unless I'm behind I almost always rush these first now).

It's an interesting kit proposition, though I do see quite a few things I don't like. Primarily that it's fun to interact with the ghouls, but I'm not sure the same could be said of the enemy player, is it fun to kill the ghouls or have to be aware that they could be repositioned at any time? Barrels on GP are at least stationary, these things move around and don't have a predictable AI that can be played around, meaning they will be more powerful, the negative is that they have to be less powerful, but then Yorick makes them more powerful by way of his Ult. . . feels like an unfun kit to play against to me. He'd end up being some sort of caster instead of a Juggernaut with little to no reason to ever get into the thick of battle himself. I liked the idea that he's getting dirty himself, with the backup from his ghouls.

yoricks kit is good enough in my opinion, maybe rework his ult because its always felt a little lack luster in my opinion ( I mean, Sion basically gets this ult for free every time he dies now). I like your concept though to turn his ult into a steroid for his ghouls to amplify their effects, health, move speed, and damage (they're kinda what makes him unique as a fighter). Keep it on a short cd and provide one or two passive stats to yorick and hes golden with his kit.

The real problem i think is that he has been one mana thristy hunchback for a while now. Most other fighters anymore dont rely on mana as a resource (if any) and those that still do gain a distinct advantage from their abilities successfully being used: Darius' durability and zoning power, fiora's mobility and damage avoidance, Nasus' lategame OPness, Illaoi's unbelievable endurance and aoe beatdown, etc. Compared to other champions yoricks abilities are too subtle for a fighter to justify his NEED to build some mana just so he can continue to trade blows with his peers at their pace while their building things fighters should to fulfill their niche.

I think yorick would be better off using energy with some passives in his kit to help him regen it (like all other energy users do) or going with a rage system.

  • Energy would allow him to keep up with other fighters and retain his ability to spam his abilities as he needs to in bursts and he wouldn't be tied down to mana items.

  • Rage could be generated hitting with attacks and abilities and being hit and depleting like normal (shyv being the exception) and provide him move speed or something else as it builds. You could even use that steroid idea for his ult as a rage dump to increase its effectiveness or duration. I know this is a resource that many don't want to see overused but there's no shadow isles champ yet who uses rage.

In summation: Get rid of yoricks hopeless dependency on mana Riot! He would definitly see WAAAAAAAY more time in the rift if not for that annoyance. I'd say its only fair since theirs more then enough high mobility champs now to deal with his infamous past kiting abilities.

Yorick actually does a lot of damage, its like pseudo-burst. If they are melee WEQ or WQE, depends on their range from you. If they are ranged you just do WE over and over again. If you kill a minion with your Q and there is an enemy champion near it will aggro to them. Other than that good rework.

When I play Yorick, I expect to win. 100% of the time.

But I don't play Yorick, so I'm on a loss streak.

so first off the three limit and 30 second refresh means you are forced to play passively, so much like illoai if you dont have a ghoul/tentacle up you are useless (this makes him an abysmal team fighter)

second having all ghouls operate on a hp bar system leaves no room for scaling and makes him extremely weak versus any sort of attack speed scaling enemies.

at least with current yorick i can build CDR and get more ghouls quicker to up my DPS, and stacking health and Attack damage make them live longer and hit harder.

this proposed system eliminates all of that scaling potential, unless you are ranking hp/damage at each level AND having it scale off those same values on each

as a yorick main this just seems worse in every way that would matter in competitive play.

his ghouls do pretty much the same stuff, yet lose all of their usefulness in terms of pushing your enemy back from xp gains and last hits. having to manage control via double use powers would be incredibly difficult to micro manage to boot.

there are some interesting ideas, but if this is the yorick remake i wouldnt play him again.
