Champion Creation Guide

Hello - I'm pacattack25, So YOU want to make your own champion idea and submit it to riot via the concepts & creations thread- I'm here to help you potentially maybe have the champion go from idea to game.

Lore: It is important that your character has it - or more accurately an incredibly bland any kindergartner could write it lore - see Bard who's lore litterally is "We don't know anything about this champion" or Amumu who's lore isn't much better or DrMundo who definitely didn't steal from Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde's lore for examples.

See also Jax Aatrox and Bard share the lore of "we don't know anything about this champion" If you can't take a champion's name and insert it where your champion's name should be in your lore - you've PROBABLY done something wrong. Your champion's lore should read like almost some other champion's lore - and almost every champion of your role should have the same role (all tanks for example read about the same)

Passive: There are three basic choices you can have as your passive, but two rules you must follow Rule#1: Your Passive must be overpowered early game, while at the same time having little to no effect late game see Ahri, Amumu, AurelionSol, Blitzcrank, Cassiopeia, Diana, Ekko, Fiddlesticks, Fizz, Gangplank, Gragas, Irelia, Janna, JarvanIV, Jayce, Kalista, Karma, Kayle, KogMaw, Leblanc, Leona, Lucian, Lux, Malzahar, and many others I don't have space for examples

Rule#2 If your passive has any real effect in late game at all - there MUST be some interaction with the champion AurelionSol is a great example as his passive would be completely worthless without his W. Or Garen who must stay out of combat for his passive to kick in or DrMundo/Aatrox who's abilities cost hp so their passive can have effect late game, or Lissandra/Ziggs who both have to cast spells to put passive on lower cooldown for examples.

Three passive choises: You can pick one of three things for your passive, it can either do more damage, give you health, or give you resistances. Do not do anything flashy like LeeSin THE BLIND MONK having a passive that makes him immune to being blinded... that would certainly be more broken than the "I have infinite energy" passive he already has... Is your champion a tank? You can either give it a health passive or resistance passive. Is your champion a carry? Better give it extra damage. Champion a support? Typically these get 'hit after spell to do more damage' or health. Yes there are other passives in the game - but I'm trying to increase the likelyhood of your champion actually being made...

Q: Your Q should 100% ALWAYS be some line based skill shot, I don't care what it does when /if it hits something. You can make it turn into an 'X' you can make it bounce, you can make it come back after being fired - the important part is that this is a line based skill shot regardless of your role.

W: Ok - this is where you can start getting a bit creative based on role- but it should almost always either be a shield, heal, or dash. Jax, Malzahar, Zyra are the ONLY champs I can think of that don't have one of those three things written directly on their w. Don't worry - you can make the w primarily offence ability (XinZhao/Aatrox) -as long as it can be used defensively as well your good.

E: If you have or want a dash or other movement based ability AurelionSol Graves Lucian Bard - it better be here. Otherwise - things that STOP movement Caitlyn Jinx Blitzcrank Veigar should probably be on your e. Also Zilean it is PERFECTLY fine to have both Lulu even if you swap the ability order with w. Keep in mind mobility creep is a thing - and your champion should either join the mobility creep or stop it.

R: This is the one place you have almost true freedom... almost, your ult should help your champion feel unique - so you'ld best make it either a AOE ability, or an super powerful attack that will almost certainly kill everything in its wake.

THE MINIGAME: If your champion doesn't have one yet - better give him one. This can be anything from making your passive a three hit, to making you find one of your own projectiles for cooldown, to making every third ult deal more damage. The important part is that your champion has one - and that the minigame is one of two things that makes your champion 'feel' unique

Stats: You want your stats to be WELL above the curve for whatever type of champion your making, keep in mind that Riot likes to sell champions the first week - give them something that OBVIOUSLY should be nerfed, and they will run with it - sell it for extra profit and then proceed to nerf the champion the VERY wrong way immediately when it goes on sale to 6300 ip so that people think that it's not a problem, only to see more of that champion dominating because the nerf wasn't 'effective' in slowing down the champ... really we all know that the first patch nerf is only there to make it look like riot is actually trying.

Here's my somewhat sarcastic guide to making a new champ idea - and remember if there isn't something VERY similar on another champ... it won't be made.
