i like the ranking system in Star Craft 3 very much, and think League of Legends should do something similar... since it is more fun.
It works like this... U don't get ONE rank, but several ranks depending on who you are playing with.
E.g. Bob plays with John - they are Silver 2 Bob plays with John and Evan - they are Gold 3 Bob plays with John, Evan and Mary - they are Diamond 2 and so on... - Ranked depending on who you play with u get the point ! :)

In current system you get ONE rank for single/duo Que and you get ONE rank for playing 5v5 flex.
So now if you do badly, your rank is gone to shit and you are not motivated to continue playing ranked.
The Star Craft 3 system where you get one rank for every person/persons you play with, you have more chances to get a good rank.
Like... if Bob plays with Robert they are ranked in Iron 2, Bob can chose to play with some other friend to get better rank with them.

The difference is in perception since only your individual rank is displayed explicitly by Riot. MMR is unknown to us (3rd party MMR is extrapolated, but not exact).
It's not your rank that determines your team and opponents. It's your hidden MMR.

It is not the same thing... If i play with you, then you and me will TOGETHER get ONE rank. If i play with my friend Bob we will TOGETHER get one rank.
If i play LoL Solo/Duo ranked, then im stuck with the rank i get because there is no other chance... While if you could get several ranks depending on who you play with, then you "always" have am extra chance to do better with someone else.
