Blood Moon Questions

A friend of mine said that the blood moon skins- which all look awesome by the way way to go Riot, were based on the Oni. However when I attempted to google them I found many different versions of them and even fewer that seemed to have influenced the idea of the skins. So I was wondering firstly if it is true that they really are based on the oni, and if so what kind, and thirdly if the skins aren't based on the oni what might they be? (I'm sorry if I spelt oni wrong, or if it's meant to be capitalized. Also if this does relate to anyone's religion, this was a quick google search please keep that in mind, I'm very sorry if in any way I may have offended you.) Thanks in advance.

The Blood Moon name refers to the night of Ionia's festival of fire. It used to be a thing that was part of the Journal of Justice a while ago :) http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/The_Blood_Moon

The Blood Moon skins aren't based on any one particular demon, but there definitely was a lot of inspiration taken from the traditional oni masks that's part of japanese folklore :)

Ionia is a mystical place, I like to believe it's still a thing :) I don't have any more information than that though =/

not getting blood moon elise. i'm assuming it's red or less pink than the original.

On PBE, at first she was much pinker. Due to community feedback, we tinkered with the colors a few times to come to the medium you see on the Live server.

We definitely did try making her the darker red internally, but with her white hair and tassels she ended up looking a lot like Mrs. Santa Claus :x
