Not entirely sure what you mean, but I have a guess.

If you mean if you can still use a skin shard to get a skin with Orange Essence for free after using the shard to rent it (basically "testing the skin out"), then the answer is no. Renting a skin will consume the skin shard, so you won't be able to use Orange Essence to get the skin for free anymore. You can either rent it or make it a permanent, not both with the same skin shard.
