Not Quite So Random ARURF+ Idea

Hey there RITO and fellow Summoners. I had an idea on how to keep URF a random champ mode while still giving players some control over who they play.

After talking to a lot of my friends, most of my friends would rather be able to pick their own champs for URF than have them randomly selected, and while I feel the same, I also understand the concept and reasoning behind having champs randomly selected for you. It keeps the game interesting by forcing you out of your comfort zone and away from the "guaranteed win" picks that don't get banned.

SO, with all that being said, I propose a sort of random draft. Both your team and the opposing team each bans champs either all at once or one by one in a way that guarantees no two people ban the same champ. Following this would be the fun part- either you pick one of a few groups of randomly generated champs (i.e. you have 4 groups of 3-5 champs listed in front of you, and you pick one group) or you select up to 2-3 champs, and then 1-2 more champs are selected for you. These could either be selected for you randomly by the game, or picked by one of the enemy players (kinda like the old nemesis draft). This process goes one by one until about 15-25 champs have been placed into a pool for your team. Your champ is then randomly chosen from the champs in your teams pool. The remaining unused champs go into a community pool that BOTH teams would have access to via a single reroll per player.

So, why do this? it adds a degree of control to the randomness of ARURF. While the randomness tries to keep things balanced, I've had games where more often than not the enemy team just had better random rolls. Regardless of early surrender for ARURF, it still feels bad to play a match where you know your team is horribly outclassed from the start. With this you would have a higher chance of not being dead in the water right out of the gate, and have a chance to really do something.

Also, here's a lovely scuffed idea of how it might look. The ban phase happens, each summoner picks two champs and has one selected for them at random from their owned champs and the URF free rotation:

TEAM 1 BANS: Anivia Annie Diana Ekko Brand TEAM 2 BANS: Shaco Blitzcrank Zoe Ziggs Varus

Team 1 Sum. 1 PICKED: Aatrox Alistar RANDOM: Chogath Team 2 Sum. 1 PICKED: RekSai Singed RANDOM: Swain Team 2 Sum. 2 PICKED: Shyvana Thresh RANDOM: Katarina Team 1 Sum. 2 PICKED: Gragas Graves RANDOM: Lissandra Team 1 Sum. 3 PICKED: Garen Akali RANDOM: Azir Team 2 Sum. 3 PICKED: Ekko Sion RANDOM: Velkoz Team 2 Sum. 4 PICKED: Veigar Taliyah RANDOM: Urgot Team 1 Sum. 4 PICKED: Taric Soraka RANDOM: Vayne Team 1 Sum. 5 PICKED: Xayah Volibear RANDOM: Zed Team 2 Sum. 5 PICKED: Zilean Darius RANDOM: Caitlyn

From here, each summoner has one champion selected for them at random from the champions that are in THEIR TEAM'S champion pool. In other words, the 10 champs they picked, and the 5 that were chosen for them. The teams would then look something like this:

Team 1 gets:

Sum 1: Zed Sum 2: Alistar Sum 3: Garen Sum 4: Xayah Sum 5: Graves

Team 2 gets:

Sum 1: Caitlyn Sum 2: Ekko Sum 3: Swain Sum 4: Taliyah Sum 5: Katarina

After the teams are randomized from their pools (15 champs), all the other champs that were NOT picked (20 champs, 10 from each team) go into a pool that can be rerolled from, but everyone would only have 1 reroll to prevent all 30 champs from the initial draft to be possible picks. The other thing that this does, is force you to be careful about your picks- Say team 1 summoner 5 rerolls and snags Zilean, the champion that summoner 5 on the opposing team originally picked hoping he would play it. Now, not only does he not have Zilean, the enemy team has it instead. This helps keep the random factor of the game while also allowing a degree of choice over what you get.

Anyway, that's pretty much all I got. I feel like the other part of my suggestion, the whole 'Group select' thing is self explanatory. The game says "You wanna play Veigar, Nunu or, Cho; Blitz, Xayah, or Yasuo; or Nautilus, Udyr, or Tahm?" You then have to weigh out the options of each group- Yas is ok in URF but Xayah and Blitz might be two or your favorites, so you go with option two, and then the random selection happens where you get one champ from your teams pool. Feel free to comment and ask anything, give me suggestions, or otherwise. I'm hoping big daddy rito sees this cuz this is a change that would make ARURF+ a much more fun game mode to me.

See ya on the rift, -TH3SLASH3R
