[Champion Concept] Gavyx, the Galactic Spinner

SwipeZ··8 votes·1,291 views

Given Gavyx's name and title, it is obvious his abilities are themed around outer space. His primary role is going to be a mage with high burst. Most of his abilities are going to be AoE making him a potent pick for teamfighting. I got inspiration from a lot of sources for this champion so without further ado lets jump right into it.

Gavyx is no longer the Galactic Spinner, he is now

Gavyx, the Galactic Conjurer

Appearance: Gavyx has medium to long violet-black hair. His eyes glow an ominous purple and his face shows his age as is it is slightly wrinkled and worn. He wears a black vest with orange trim. The vest reveals his somewhat muscular arms and chest. Also, he has odd markings all over his body that seem to change as he moves. He wears black trousers and footwraps. His weapon is a black staff with what appears to be an orange meteor on top

Quotes: Upon Selection: "They will feel the power of the galaxy.."

Movement: "Through the stars"

Lore: WIP

Attributes: Mage

Defense 2/10, Attack 2/10, Magic 10/10

Stats: Damage ~ 51 (+2.9 per level) 103.2 max Attack Speed ~ 0.687 (+2.3% per level) Health ~ 494 (+74 per level) 1826 max Mana ~ 320 (+56 per level) 1328 max Move Speed ~ 330 Armor ~ 18.4 (+4 per level) 90.4 max Magic Resist ~ 30 Health Regen ~ 7.5 (+0.625 per level) 18.75 max Mana Regen ~ 7.9 (+0.8 per level) 22.3 max Range ~ 550

Abilities: Passive: Nebula: Clouds of ionized gas orbit around Gavyx that can be procced for extra effects by his abilities.

Radius around Gavyx 500 Spawn Rate 1 cloud every 20/16/12 seconds Radius of Cloud 175 Max Clouds 4 Cloud Orbit Speed 500 *increases at levels 1/11/18

The intent behind this passive is to offer options on what ability to use and allow more diversity for Gavyx. The clouds orbit around Gavyx at a speed that should be slow enough that he can use them to proc the extra effects from his abilities..

Q: Supernova: Active: After a brief delay Gavyx creates a circular nuclear explosion at a target location dealing 100/140/180/220/260 (+0.8AP) magic damage. If Supernova casts within Nebula. it detonates it causing enemies hit are slowed by 10%/15%/20%/25%/30%.

Cost 50/55/60/65/70 Cooldown 12/11/10/9/8 Range 900 Radius of Explosion 125 Time Delay 0.8 seconds

This is meant to be a simple AoE damaging spell that offers minor CC while in conjunction with Gavyx's passive. The delay is there to allow a balance between the large range and AoE that the ability offers.

W: Singularity: Active: Gavyx summons a singularity that pulls in enemies for 1.25s, at the end of this duration the singularity explodes dealing 50/110/170/230/290 (+0.5AP) magic damage. If Singularity is cast within Nebula, enemies are stunned for 1.25s after the explosion.

Cost 70/80/90/100/110 Cooldown 15/14/13/12/11 Range 800 Radius of Singularity 100

Singularity is the main CC ability that Gavyx has. IT has low early game damage, but scales well. In conjunction with Nebula, it offers a strong potential option depending on the teamfight.

E: Gamma-Ray: Active: Gavyx transforms into a ray of radiation and dashes forward dealing 100/150/200/250/300 (+0.1AP) magic damage over 5 seconds. If Gamma-Ray collides with Nebula, Gavyx doubles his dash distance.

Cost 100 Cooldown 25 Range 750, 1500 if through Nebula Projectile Width 125 Projectile Speed 1600

This ability is Gavyx's only mobility. It can be used for decent damage, or to escape out of sticky situations. The distance and speed is balanced out by the long cooldown. Use it sparingly.

R: Armageddon: Active: Gavyx summons a meteor from the sky to a target location. After a brief delay, the meteor hits dealing 250/350/450 (+0.6AP) magic damage, knocks back enemies who got hit. If Armageddon hits Nebula, Armageddon deals an additional 150 (+0.4AP) magic damage.

Cost 150 Cooldown 160/140/120 Range 1400 Radius of Armageddon 400 Time Delay 1.5 seconds

This ultimate serves as an extremely dangerous tool due to its high damage and radius. To offset its immense power, there is a delay and a marking warning enemies of what is about to come.

Overall Gavyx offers high damage, somewhat decent CC, and a decent escape. He is designed to be a strong teamfighter and is centered around a high burst mage.

v 0.1 Added Abilities and Base Stats v 0.2 Changed Title v 0.3 changed passive

With a name like "Galactic Spinner" I was honestly expecting more Gurren Lagann references.

A question about the Nebula: does it stay still once spawned, or does it move, relative either to Gavyx or to the map?

Sorry I dont watch Anime (I think thats where Gurren is from? Correct me if im wrong) I was debating between Galactic Reaver or Galactic Mage, but the first one suggests an assassin type and the second one feels rather lame to me.

Good question. For Nebula, it will remain stationary when it spawns, but what you suggest brings a potential rework in my mind. Have Nebula's spawn and maybe one spell allows them to be moved to be used with his other abilities. Albeit that sounds like Orianna,

Moving spawned objects with a spell sounds more like Syndra than Orianna to me. Maybe consider having the Nebula orbit around him? It would make it a little more threatening while still allowing counterplay. If the things just sit in one place, the enemy champion can look at them, say "oh cool, Nebula. Guess I shouldn't walk that way," and then just stay far enough away from it that they never have to worry about the empowered spell effect. If the nebula circles around him though, then there are windows where its dangerous to approach Garyx because that means walking through the Nebula, inter-spaced with intervals where you can approach him, but he can also escape much more easily.

If nothing else, it would make his title more fitting.

That is a pretty sweet idea. I'll give it some thought. In the meantime, changed his title to Galactic Conjurer, I might make a repost so the title is changed at the top. This repost will probably come when hes completed, and thats going to be awhile. Keep in mind this is like the rough draft, after we get the abilities all nice and set, we move into lore/quotes and once those are finished at a good quality he is done.

Im really liking this concept, reminds me of malzahar, azir and orianna all in one (all of which I love) You should see if you can get anyone to make some concept are for you, thatd be sick. :)

I don't mean to be rude, but I believe that you may have copied my idea without permission. See my board of The Conceptual Think Tank for what I posted, which was an ability named Singularity, and your W ability is oddly similar to my idea. I do not mind your use of this idea, but it is not generally polite to copy another's idea without asking.

hmm, im sorry if i did copy, i'll be perfectly honest this was my first post (I made one being slightly narcissistic announcing im back) on concepts in a long time. i haven't really viewed the boards/forums beforehand so i would have had no idea. If you want i can change it. Also, for the names, I looked up astronomy terms and found names that thematically fit ideas for abilities. E.g. a singularity occurs in a black hole and sucks things to the center. When I thought of it I immediately related it to Diana's E. Regardless, if you want me to change it I'll find something else. I just want to make clear that I did not read anyone's post before creating Gavyx.

Ok, I was just checking. Thanks for your response, and don't change anything if you don't want to. I was just nervous when I saw it, and it was similar to this ability of mine:

"R-Singularity Cost: 125 mana Range: 1000 Cooldown: 60

Target area (radius 100) moves all contained units and champions towards the center of it at a rate of 20 units per second. Every second a unit or champion is inside the circle, he or she takes magic damage equal to ( ’s ability power*8/Distance from center (min 1)). The circle dispels violently after 7 seconds, dealing 100/200/300 magic damage to all contained units (Ignoring champions)."

I understand that this may have just been coincidence, and I apologize for any trouble this may have caused.

No problem. I just wanted to clarify things and make sure if you did feel offended in any way that I would remove it.

i know i haven't worked on gavyx in months but finals are done and i think i will revisit him.

a big thing i was considering is having gavyx's passive revolve around him in an orbit and using an ability through the passive causes the bonus effects with say an increasing number of nebulas up to 4 with probably a constant spawn rate.
