New Champion Idea - Ivern Spawned a lore discussion into Nautilus
Hello Forums and Rioters! As my first ever post, go easy on me Senpais!
I was really excited to see a new support come out, especially one as unique as Ivern, and it got my wheels rolling with that of a friend at a late night discussion. We often see champions in league who have a set role, and maybe can be manipulated to have up to two, even three. With the new swing of Riot devs, we see champs who excel at certain areas (looking at you Reksai, Soraka, Braum) and are firmly grounded in their comfy roles and niches for items. But what about a champ whose role switches in the middle of battle? Let me elaborate.
This would be a form of duality (but not like Kindred), a form of power build upon motion and anger. One that transforms. Now, I know you are thinking, oh no not another rage champ like Renekton uses rage, but his transformation is chosen. Or Gnar, who is an oddity in he switches from long range kiting, to a close range all in based upon his rage cap but he cannot be controlled.
What about a champion who ebbs and flows, like the water (we love Nautilus and really would love the Dark mass that dragged him into the sea in his lore be fulfilled)? In the regard of niches and water, We already have Nami with that W supoort heal, but she is a focused support, who needs to build some ap with her support items (unless full damage, but you see that less at higher levels) and she also is grounded in that she is a casual mix of some damage and some cc/support when built accordingly. If you made a champ with say a "Tidal bar" or similar "Rage bar", they could have all focused abilities for healing and cc/interrupt say, A slow, a short stun, a heal, etc, but they have only scaling for the CC they provide, and do very little damage. But once that Tidal bar fills, boom, very low cc but higher damage, perhaps also MS/dmg buffs to their ally, making the enemy play around the bar.
Now you may say, why, it's a lot like Gnar. But if you gear this to more of renektons style, where she has to expend rage to use her abilities, it creates far more planning in lane, rewards you for landing skill-shots to build Tide perhaps. This way you can't spam abilities as a support and successfully spam damage or transform. Now to further say, that doing damage from a basic attack or the very weak damage from your abilites would gain rage, but maybe movement speed as well, like Yas. This way you must constantly be on the move and be rewarded for it, to use those abilities, just keep kiting, rotating in lane, zoning, roaming to help, etc. (This also leads to maybe a movement speed passive in river).
As for an ult, the ult could be synergistic to stats and then offensive ability (but lose the stats) when in Tidal form.
For example:
Oceanus (Place Holder, that is the Greek Titan of the Sea, prior to Poseidon)
Passive - Relentless Surge - Abilities are fueled by Tidal ebb, that builds as you move. Gains a % Move speed buff in river?
Q - Rising Waters -Heal that grant the majority of it's strength as regeneration to an ally, because water builds up( Perhaps can have a scale with their hp or your max hp, max ap?) Tidal Form/DoT ability that persists by being basic attacked, so it starts weak but then scales the more hit, like a small rolling wave that becomes massive at shore.
W - Undertow - Expanding Cone shaped Skill-shot (Picture old graves Q shape that grows bigger for a short time) Slow that scales with your current movement speed and AP/ Tidal Form - Movement speed to you and ally Passive in a three hit formula, instead of damaging the enemy with it (or slowing) all people who have hit the champ when it pops gain a move speed buff.
E - Mark of Deep - Skill shot that stuns the first enemy hit and gains strength (Time stunned? Speed of Skill shot? Size?) for the number of allies it passed through before hitting (perhaps can buff allies?)/Tidal Form Skill shot that pulls the first enemy hit a short distance towards you, lowering their resistances for a short time (Scales with allies passed through). Also had though of, what if the skill shot distance was reset if it hit an ally afflicted with W passive? So it hits them, passes their "undertoe" onward, pulling the enemy to them, instead of you?)
R - Typhoon - When in "Normal" form, grants health regen/defense (Some useful defensive/support stat or maybe the river move speed buff here to encourage roaming post 6)/Tidal Form Oceanus becomes the embodiment of the seas rage, a living typhoon. Duration lasts based upon Tidal bar amount. Knocks enemies into the air as they are hit, slowing them and dealing DoT.
So that's it guys! Let me know what you think and please get some notice for the Devs! I would really love to see some unique mechanics in game and want no credit whatsoever for a similar champ, just to see it put in game would be amazing!
