Saw a post on this by VoidKarma where people had a fantastic attitude about our favorite ninjas - Zed with a 13-14% pick rate (blitz.gg) mid being very meta right now while taking much skill and Shen, who has just gotten a buff that now allows him to lane, and is back to being a viable pick.
Of course I am bias, having Shen be my main, and looking at VoidKarma's account, you can see that he is a Zed main. Maybe in the future we can see this, I know 2 of us out here would love it :)
Yes, Shen and Zed are admittedly an iconic rivalry in League of Legends and it might be fun to see them battle.
But like Hikari Sakata pointed out in VoidKarmas thread, the VS event would be extremely onesided. Zed is incredibly more popular than Shen, there is no doubt that he would win the event by a landslide. And while this rivalry is iconic, there are tons of other rivalries in the game which are also just as iconic:

To Riot, Shen doesn't exist. Not like he's cooler than Zed or anything.
Shen is a wasted pick
As much as I would like to see such VS events, the edgiest side and/or the side concerning the champ with the biggest fanbase is almost guaranteed to win. I already hate the game enough when Zed is picked way too often, I wouldn't particularly like an event encouraging his pickrate to rise just for an event with an outcome who'll most probably be in his favor.
I main shen player and i gotta say He can beat a lot of champion 1v1 if you play him right, I personally love playing against Zed with shen. If you play shen right you can counter Zed pretty good I mean look at shen’s skill and his passive. Shen is a tank and deal pretty good damage but Zed is just squishy.
This three item is a must have when I play shen no matter ranked or not, try them out guys those works great with shen. The burst damage is real and so is the movement speed to chase
