How to make support an attractive role.
TL;DR: Problem:
- The Support Role is not popular
- Mandatory Autofill
Solution:
-
Role based items (locked purely to that role)
-
Fix support items
-
Great benefits for being a support (prevent abuse of those benefits)
-
Give supports more control over their role.
Support is a seldom used class and it is greatly affecting the health of League of Legends. I.E. Autofill becoming mandatory. These nerfs to the support items is going to greatly affect the way supports function in lane, and how the community will view supports as a whole in and out of game. A very simple (hopefully), and somewhat obvious choice (to me at least), is to make these items only for supports. We have the ability to lock in a role, and have our position tracked in lane, so it should be feasible to lock items to a role, in that lane, with particular champions. We also have actual "support" champions and they should easily have access to these items. The only problem I foresee is the lack of nonmeta picks for the support role. But let's face it, a support
etc. has nothing on a meta support pick like
etc.Another smart choice is to fix how some items work on champions based on their attack types. Spoils of War's execute should work regardless if the support attacks at range or melee.
would benefit from this greatly, especially with someone that doesn't know how to handle
passive W stacks. We also have passive gold income during the match. We could increase that for supports while they are in lane with their adc. Once you leave the lane, or your adc, you lose the passive until you return to lane or rejoin your adc. You cannot however keep the passive if you have earned more money than your adc. A similar system could work with experience points. A support cannot get the passive exp if they are at the same level as their adc, or a higher level than their adc. It could also be applied through a similar function, like
and
, throughout the match. It keeps the support and adc on equal footing with one another. That would prevent people from trying to abuse the system of increased gold and experience. The passive can also cancel out momentarily when killing a minion like
and disabled for a particular amount of time after getting a kill while the adc or any other team member is near. That would prevent trolls from stealing cs and kills if they're getting stronger without the cs and kills. This will make people want to act like actual supports. The only problem is: the support is only as good as his/her adc (which is true anyway). The next problem is how vision is given to the map. Support needs to have the ward limit removed and pink wards need a special slot for supports. The
and
need to have something to make them more viable for people to want to buy them. It needs to give some nice passive stacks like its counterparts:
. A passive ward stacking system would be incredibly good for supports that have to stay with their team to get objectives and get picks. It needs something, that makes people want to buy it, rather than being forced to buy it. It could be tied to the previous passive abilities I mentioned before, and has the same rules. THAT would be something I would want to have with me. regardless if someone mains support or got autofilled.I am a support main out of necessity. Someone has to fill the role and a bad support can have devastating effects on the outcome of the match. The adc needs someone to... well... support them, and give them a fighting chance. It take two to start a shouting match, and that can make a hard game so much harder with diminishing moral. If everyone is happy with their role and everyone doing their job, it leads to a better gaming experience.
