A Question about Fanfictions (and perhaps third party works as well)
SKIP TO THE FINAL PARAGRAPH IF YOU JUST WANT THE QUESTION
I am one of those people who actually thought the lore aspect of these games were interesting and worthy of attention even way back in the days of season 2 when the lore was loosly connected and focused on individual character rather than their connection to the of LoL universe (granted, I was reading it off a korean translation at the time but there weren't much difference). Whenever a new champion would be released and some of the old lore would be remade to fit Runeterra more, I was drawn more deeply into the this fantasy that I would love to potentially visit such unique world where humans, Yordles, Vastayans, Gods, and weird creatures .
I was really glad when Riot started to care more for the individual story behind these champions *and how this all ties into* the setting of runeterra as a whole (I believe that this switch of focus started with Lissandra's release but that is my opinion and there might be a official post of this somehwere that I have missed). Although it did come at a cost for some champions as they lost their interesting bio that showed more of the character ( I am talking about Ezreal here) for something that ties them to a faction or a theme.
So, when I saw the recent videos on youtube * /dev diaries* and saw the effort behind in turning Valoran and the whole of Runterra into something potentially more than trivia (and being comfortable/confident enough to share it) , I was... inspired to partake my own step into hopefully adding on more to this unique world and giving it more life. My choice is to write a Fanfiction.
Here is where my question rises (sorry for the long intro) : What will Riot's policy of Fanfictions and potential third-party work about Runeterra be? I mean, selling stories of Runterra will obviously violate copywrite and will end in a tragic legal matter but what about Fanfiction? Does Riot promote them? If a story does so well to the point where the suthor wants to publish it officially what will happen?
P.S. I am not saying that I am going to write the next Harry Potter out of Runeterra or anything (my skills are bad) - I am just doing Fanfics for fun. But writing these did put these questions in mind.
