Hello Riot community. I am a new linux user. I am not going back to windows due to privacy and security concerns. I would LOVE to continue to play LoL on linux NATIVELY. This WINE implimentation is really buggy and i cant even play a single game without a crash. If someone can help me out that would be awesome. But RIOT PLEASE can we get a port to linux. With this being the NUMBER 1 Esports tittle in the world i would have thought that it would have been ported without any questions. But RIOT if you're out there somewhere, PLEASE Im begging you, port this to Linux. I love your game. Id love to continue to play it. I HATE windows and macOS. Opensource is the way to go.

Actually an OpenGL port isn't the best choice.. Apple announced this year already that they won't support OpenGL anymore, so their port for Mac needs to be redesigned anyway. The smartest solution would be a Vulkan port to simply just bring a native port for Windows, Mac and Linux in one run. This would allow performance similar to DirectX or even better (if done correctly) and would decrease differences between clients on different operating systems.

I am not quite sure how good League runs on linux at the moment through wine but you should definitely checkout wine-staging and dxvk-possibilities. I would love to see a native client for linux as well, but Riot keeps ignoring the linux community for years now. There are petitions, multiple posts, discussions, ... but many times they don't even react or they just complain about the low player-count. They ignore any competition-arguments related to Dota 2 or other MOBAs and when they released their patch with anticheat-mechanics (which completely killed wine for a long time.. it was running pretty smooth before), they even showed people like me that their developers and support have nearly zero communication.

Here is the biggest petition for a client I know: https://www.change.org/p/riot-games-petition-to-support-league-of-legends-linux-client

Here is a post I created shortly after the anticheat-patch going online: (includes a straw poll for a client) https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/de/c/general-discussion/Gvcuqrtm-community-on-linux-based-systems

I really do hope that Steam will improve their current work with Proton and SteamPlay even more, so Riot and other companies will get higher pressure to look at Linux as a gaming-platform. I mean when it really comes to the optimal case that all games on Steam are available and playable out of the box on Linux, it will become a problem if you don't find a solution as Riot. Because when the time comes and you will have more than 20 thousand games playable on Linux and several AAA-games, why should anyone stay with Windows? Maybe for a period of time, because they are still used to it and can't think about changing the operating system. But it simply needs just one Windows-update, one security-leak, one extra payment, one forced service in the background or even just one of the many trojans or viruses floating through the internet. People won't keep Windows in the long run.
