Pantheon Rework Idea
Hey everyone just wanted to make a quick post of thoughts I had for a Pantheon VGU since I'm sure most of you can agree his kit is very dated when compared to the rest of the roster. Point and click stun and spear, feast or famine, late game worthlessness, etc. All and all he fails pretty hard at the whole Paragon of War that I feel he should try to attain. So without further adieu my ideas.
Kit Synopsis: For a quick idea of what I'm planning I say we really capture him being an aspect of war even more relevant after the Aatrox lore rework really painting the idea of ascended beings. For that I propose a two part kit one involving his go to standard in his spear and the other being him brandishing a small sword akin to a gladius, (I know technically a Roman thing.) To that his kit reflects the switch-hitting style of war.
Passive: Now to be fair Pantheon's passive is pretty powerful but I just don't feel it will fit with his new kit, so I think a relatively simple passive is in order
Spear Mode: His basic autos gain more range to reflect the longer weapon, possibly small damage buff.
Sword Mode: He gains scaling attack speed but his auto range is lower
Q: Now this the problem ability in his current kit just no skill, very low interactivity on both ends and honestly underwhelming in its entirety.
Spear Mode: A medium range skill shot that upon colliding with the enemy will skewer them dealing percent max hp damage and slowing them. If missed will simply go on cd and switches to sword mode. May entertain the idea of it just stabbing the ground and needing retrieved similar to Olaf but not sure.
Sword Mode: A quick series of slashes with his gladius similar to his old e on live.
W: This will also be a fairly significant change and will incorporate elements of his old passive, but will truly forge his identity as a juggernaut and encroaching master of war.
Same in both modes: Raises his shield giving him damage reduction and projectile immunity from incoming spells and attacks from in front of him, while slightly lowering his movement speed from him covering himself with his shield. As he should with the massive shield he wields. Bonus points for great sound effects to support his slow but steadfast advance
E: Given his current E has been moved to his sword Q I had a few liberties with this one, but wanted to give him back some crowd control as well as just some badassery
Spear Mode: A simple lunge in a chosen direction on contact with an enemy champion, minion, monster does a scaling amount of physical damage and lowers armor.
Sword Mode: While adjacent to enemy skewered by Q will rip out the spear stunning and doing execute damage to enemy champions. If I were to go with him needing to recover his spears could add a variant where he grabs it a swirls dealing aoe damage, not sure though.
R: His ult could largely remain the same though I'd like a variation in it, where he can target an enemy champion mid flight and upon landing impaling his spear into them setting up the rest of his kit. Not sure how to handle this perhaps a Q cast whilst mid flight?
So there you go just my thoughts on a potential Pantheon rework I'd love some insight and thoughts on this and would love to bounce numbers ideas off of someone. I love Pantheon's thematic and really want him to be more viable and fun to play while also not being so feast or famine as he is currently. I believe while this kit is still easy enough to grasp and has a clear method of attack it adds counter play and levels of outplay for both the enemy champion and Pantheon respectively.
