Torrus, the Scar of Oblivion
Torrus, The Scar of Oblivion
--Solok, another name I thought of. I like Torrus, however. A torus is a loop, fairly easy to imagine what symbolism I am going for there. Infinity is a concept that works very well for cosmic themed entities.-- --Skhiohl - Original Name, didn't think that it sounded menacing enough for this type of character, and that it sounded too similar to Skarrl. Do not want people to create mental weirdness in association with the character.--
I will add some reference images for scale, in regards to ability sizes, character size, etc. I'll probably use teemo as a good reference point, as its fairly easy to imagine where teemo stands, height and width wise.
Special thanks to AHarmlessTaco, I shamelessly stole his formatting method and hopefully anyone reading through this will have an easier time because of it. You should check out his champion concept Vizoroth The Swarm Lord, it's a really neat idea that definitely deserves more attention.
Melee, Physical Damage, AD and AP ratios (Leaning towards AD / with low scaling on AP.)
[Q] Entropy's Edge Cooldown: 8/7.5/7/6.5/6
A slash in a flat line in front of Torus. -Special- While the ultimate is active, it will swing twice, with bonus damage on the second hit.
-thoughts & reasoning- I think a six second cooldown is the best way to go. He can cast it twice under the duration of his ultimate, but not three times. 18 seconds < 15. This doesn't take into consideration cooldown reduction of course, and I will have to figure out the numbers to best match what I intend for this ability. So, skill progression should be - 1 [8sec] 2 [7.5sec] 3 [7sec] 4 [6.5sec] 5 [6sec]
[W]Enmity Cooldown: 12/12/12/12/12 stomp, creating a rippling wave of shadow in a wide line in front of Torus. Abilities cast inside the shadow (q, e) will double up after a short delay, attacking in a shadow version of the original attack at the original cast location. E, instead of being a leash, will be a shadowbolt style attack that does damage over time.
-Special- If the ultimate is active, the shadow will slow enemies and lower the enemies vision radius.
-thoughts & reasoning- 12 second flat cooldown, scaling on the slow, maybe the delay will be slightly lowered on his shadow attacks, or the damage of the shadow attacks increased with more ranks put into the ability. The ability will not do any damage itself. Perhaps the ultimate will make the slow on the shadow better?
or
[W] Placeholder Name Cooldown: 10/10/9/9/9 Charges: 2/2/2/2/3
Create a pool of darkness, with a 2 charge system. Each pool is linked to each other, but only 2 can be placed at one time. The effective range of linking is short, think a little longer than caitlyn q range. If more than 2 pools are placed, the first pool placed will dissipate and the new pool will link with the remaining second pool. Any abilities cast at a pool will be transferred at the linked pool, with a slight delay. Visually, it will appear as though a shadowy version of the ability attacks first, then the actual linked attack will go off. The delay is short, but long enough to give the target some counterplay opportunities. Pools can be broken in the same manner as Rek-Sai tunnels.
-Special- If the ultimate is active, pools will slow enemies, and lower the enemies vision radius if they are inside the pool.
-thoughts & reasoning- I think a 2 charge system, maybe 3 charges similar to gangplanks barrels, with a 10 second flat cooldown for the pools adding charges back is the way to go. Maybe a lower cooldown to incentivize putting points in it. 1 [10sec - 2charges] 2 [10sec 2charges] 3 [9sec - 2charges] 4 [9sec - 2charges] 5 [9sec - 3charges] adjustments are definitely necessary here, this is a weird skill and I do not know how it would be balanced. I'm not particularly fond of this version.
[E] Stygian Grasp Cooldown: 15/14.25/13/12.5/12 Throw out a skillshot that will leash onto the enemy champion. If it is allowed to channel for 3 seconds (duration can be adjusted to figure out a more reasonable timing), Torus will teleport behind (as in, opposite the targets facing direction) the target champion.
-Special- If the ultimate is active, the ability will immediately teleport Torus to the target if the ability lands.
E can be pressed again to cancel the leash, triggering his passive with reduced effectiveness, yet not teleporting him to the target (To keep you from making poor decisions).
-thoughts & reasoning- E - 15 seconds at the first rank, the lowest cd I would want this to be on is 12 seconds, minimum. 1 [15sec] 2 [14.25sec] 3[13sec] 4[12.5sec] 5 [12sec] I'm not 100% sure where I want the timing on this skill to end up but I do know that I want it to be a one time cast during the ultimate.
[R] Incarnate Cooldown: 180/150/120 After channeling for a short duration (1.5 seconds?), Torus will become empowered for 15 (duration can be adjusted) seconds. all of his abilities have additional effects, and his passive is strengthened. A pool of shadow will extend from his form, roughly around the size of vlads pool of blood. Enemies that enter this shadow will have their vision radius lowered.
-thoughts & reasoning- R - 180 - 150 - 120 seconds, fairly simple. consistency on the first rank, so that the enemy he is up against knows that he will have it back in 3 minutes. same thing with max rank, it will return in 2.
[Passive] Emptiness Abilities that deal damage to enemy champion will steal [as in spellvamp] (2%/4%/6%) 7/11/16 scaling, of the enemies current hp. the amount is doubled when the ultimate is active. It will only steal hp from one champion at a time, and it has a 3 second cooldown.
-thoughts & reasoning- [side note here, his q only steals once, not twice if the ultimate is active. It doesn't count as two abilties. similarly, his pools don't do damage so they don't steal hp either. Another thing, the shadow attacks would not go over the cd in the alternate ability, so you will never get more hp back than is reasonable. This is not a stacking health ability, this is an hp restoring ability, like vladimir's Q.]
or
[Passive] Drifting Wraith While unseen, Torus will gain bonus movespeed. While his ultimate is active, the bonus is doubled. Scaled at 7/11/16. Wards do not interrupt the effect, unless they are spotted (ie- a vision ward shows them) Similarly, enemies that have vision of him will not interrupt his passive unless they are spotted.
-thoughts & reasoning- --this is a patchy passive idea, currently. cements him as a jungler though. The movespeed bonus is broken on enemy sight, if Torus can see the enemy. Not the best solution but it's the best one I can think of currently.-
Thoughts - On ultimate Visuals
--visually, I like the idea that he would have a shadowy form of himself, larger and perhaps a more 'real' version, floating somewhat over him. Like the stands from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, at least visually. When he actually uses his ultimate, it would sort of tear into this reality, fusing with his "shell" in one motion, representing that he is forcing more of his power and strength into this world. Similarly, with the alternate W, I think it would be cool if it was his arms making the shadow attacks, and shadowbolts, in the doubled up attacks, as that also represents the idea that the form you see is not quite all there is to him.---
Lore
I want to tie his lore in with Aurelion Sol, and Nocturne. My current idea for this character is that he's some sort of space entity, like a creature of entropy and nothingness, who has had some clashes with Sol in the past, either good or bad. I don't want to say that they hold a grudge for each other, but I do want to say that Sol would possibly consider -this character- to be beneath him, as something that is disturbing or unclean. Similarly, this character would be an excellent opportunity to finally flesh out nocturnes lore, as nocturne has not had his lore updated, with the whole dismantling of the league being a thing. If you were not aware, if I recall correctly, Riot has stated that the League of Legends is no longer a thing -in-universe-, and that the in-universe lore has been changed to reflect this. You can definitely see this, with the huge updates made to flesh out the Freljord, the Shurima Desert, Bilgewater, Mount Targon, basically everything that they've done to establish characters and regions. Which is good, in my opinion, as the idea of the league never really made sense to me. That's a different rant entirely, but to make it short, consider this - If the league was established to settle conflicts, why are differently aligned champions able to fight alongside one another? Consider Master Yi, and his hatred of Singed for the slaughter of the Ionian villages that he hailed from. Would this not cause Yi to break the grip that the summoner has over him, and kill Singed, disrupting the event?Just some short thoughts, I have plenty more to say on the matter.
Concept
Back to my character, I would like to use him as a method for fleshing out some more of Aurelion Sols lore, Nocturne's current empty lore (in my opinion, I don't remember 100% but I'm fairly certain I'm correct here." and just as a way of creating a new edgy badass character. Its been a while since we've had an edgelord in the league, and I want to have one to satisfy this burning edgelord in my heart. All jokes aside, I think it would be a great way to explore the space elements that Aurelion Sol hinted at. While Aurelion Sol is not exactly the most benevolent character, he is hinted at not being an evil being. I think a creature to offset that, a flip side to that coin, if you will, could be an interesting thing to pursue.
Visuals
So, on to what I've actually thought up for this character. I've already begun to create some artwork to post alongside him, I'll probably have finished at least one draft piece to give everyone a basic idea of what I want him to look like, roughly. I want him to have legs, not because he needs them, but because it is sort of fake for him to have them. As though he created the current form he added with legs so that he can interact with the life on Runeterra in a similar manner as someone like, Aatrox maybe (in the sense that the people he was fighting with saw a completely different thing than what he actually was). I want him to have some vaguely armored bits, of course. I have decided on making his legs reverse jointed, just as a way of establishing that something is -not- quite right about him. He wields his weapon, a cleaver-like axe in his left hand. He walks stiffly, as though he learned by watching others walk, not by doing it himself. No elegance, or flow. Just brutal efficiency. His legs are heavily armored, and yet they do not make any sounds as he walks, no jangling of metal, no indication of the weight of the metal. His speech patterns, and voice itself, are vaguely unsettling. He is a cosmic horror, and there should be hints of this. His shadow does not mimic his actions, as though he does not know that it needs to do so, the thought alien to him. He is not unintelligent, only completely alien in mind and soul to this realm and world. His first contact, would most likely be with Noxus. He mimics what he sees, weaponry and armor, with his own twist and turn on the make of the equipment. His cleaver would be similar to standard equipment issued to noxian soldiers, if viewed from a distance. You would begin to recognize the changes in form and style, if you looked deeply.
Origin
The reason for his trip and subsequent stay on Runeterra, would be related to Aurelion Sol returning to destroy the aspect. He was already in the vicinity of the planet, drifting amongst the emptiness of space, darkening and shadowing whatever area he would pass by, but not so close that Runeterra was in any danger of falling under his gaze. The energy released by the dragon was familiar enough to spike an interest, and he began to make his way to the planet. He is on a level with Aurelion Sol, in terms of sheer power, lore wise. This being the reason that he has survived so long, and lived in any encounters against Sol in the past. They have been stalemates, neither one capable of harming the other. He could destroy the planet, draining the native star of its energy with his inherent entropic nature, but something about it, and the native people have drawn him in. The conflicts, perhaps, or the idea that Targon could enslave a being such as Sol to their will.
A lot of this probably sounds like rambling, and it really is to be perfectly honest. I don't know exactly what I'm looking to do with this character, but I have some concepts I want to explore, and Aurelion Sol has captivated me as a character specifically. Maybe this is just selfish but I want to hear more about him, and I've always had this idea floating about, for several years now at least. The release of Sol just put my mind in the right place to begin putting the pieces together.
Anyways, I'll add more bits to this as I think of more, but let me know your thoughts. I'll be sure to think of some ability names, alternate abilities, additional bits of lore and some values that may give a better idea of what I'm looking for. I know that this will most likely get nowhere, but I'd like to think that at least something I've said here will get used in some small way.
To make a brief summary of it, he's essentially a cosmic entity that drains energy from his surroundings. Intrinsically linked to entropy and darkness, he's a lovecraftian style horror infiltrating Runeterran society, starting at Noxus. He was lured to Runeterra by Aurelion Sol's use of power, in destroying the aspect, after which he learned of the dragon's situation (the crown, etc). He is possibly related to the creation of Nocturne, another creature of shadow and darkness.
Cheers, Khorius.
