Zhi Zhe The Enchanted Illustrator Champion Concept [CC]
Zhi' Zhe is a champion that is themed around the art of Chinese calligraphy. This is essentially a very rough outline of what he could potentially be, but the high concept is that he is an elderly monk that uses Living Ink to create deadly ink based creations. His appearance is that of a Confucian era monk, in full robes, and he is elderly. He is clearly meant to be an Ionian champ, and I thought that it would be somewhat refreshing to have another Ionian-styled Mage instead of the typical Warrior/Assassin themed Ionians.
He carries a large sword or spear-sized paintbrush that he uses in combination with a medium sized inkwell on his back to cast his "spells".
His abilities would look roughly something like this...
PASSIVE:
Zhi Zhe uses enchanted ink instead of Mana. Enchanted Ink has a base regeneration rate, which also scales with Mana Regen, however, the maximum amount of ink is determined by Zhi Zhe's ultimate level. (100/??/???)
Q: Ink Blot - Medium Cooldown - Can Have Up To 2 Stacks in Reserve - Recharges Quickly - Costs Medium Amount of Ink - Medium Range
Zhi Zhe flicks his brush at a target area, creating a small sized ink blot there. The blot remains there for X amount of seconds, or disappears when Zhi Zhe creates more than 3 Ink Blots (Similar to Wards). The Blots give a very small vision radius (I.E. Zyra Seeds) and deal a moderate amount of magic damage if they fall onto an enemy champion or minion.
W: Ink Spikes - Short Cooldown - Costs Small Amount of Ink - Medium Range
Zhi Zhe gestures, and all of his Ink Creations react violently, spawning dangerous spikes that deal Moderate Magic Damage to anyone caught in their radius and lowing them for a Moderate Slow.
E: Ink Wall - Long Cooldown - Costs Large Amount of Ink - Medium Range
(This mechanic is what makes Zhi Zhe creative and unique among other champions, so bear with me on my explanation)
Zhi Zhe channels for .5 seconds, during which he uses his paintbrush to draw a short line in any shape he pleases. After a brief delay, the line fills itself in with solid ink, creating an impassable wall (Similar to Anivia's, although there would be a communicated limit to how long the line could be, as to prevent someone from flying across the whole screen with their mouse in .5 seconds.) . Zhi Zhe's Ink Spike Ability affects this wall along with any other Ink Creations.
R: Great Ink Wall - Ultimate Cooldown - No Cost - Long Range
Zhi Zhe truly focuses on his craft, channeling for 1/1.25/1.5 seconds to draw a line of Ink that is Very Long (larger than other walls in the game). This wall fills in slowly, and is affected by Ink Spikes similarly to other Ink Creations.
So that's the general idea behind the kit, although it does need a lot of work determining balance and such, which I really was not worried about when creating this concept. The general idea is that Zhi Zhe is a zoning, area-of-control Mage who uses his Blots and Walls to corner people while dealing damage with his Spikes and providing utility for his team. And, of course, his unique mechanic is what sets him apart and makes him more flexible/interesting than other champions within that role (hopefully).
For an idea of how his blots/spikes would look, take a look at this link which depicts ferrofluids, one of the inspirations for his kit, in action. His spikes would be much faster at forming however
Other than that, I don't really have much else in way of design to offer, as I just wanted to share this idea and gauge what kind of reaction a design like this would get from the community. So I'd love to hear any of your thoughts on this and why you think it would or wouldn't work within the game.
