About those victorious skins...
Hey everyone, after a few seasons with the game I feel like I have to adress something thats seemingly not a topic at all (at least not anymore). I am talking about the victorious skins.
When I started the game right after the end of season 2 all everyone was talking about were the championship and victorious skins. They were rare, unique and seeminlgy different from all other skins you could get. Janna and Elise ended up as two of the best skins in the game (at the time, if I may say so) and I myself was fortunate enough to get gold after a year and secure victorious morgana who I think was the last skin in the lineup which still had the beautiful stylistic elements from the previous seasons.
After morgana, the style unfortunately changed. Rediculously large golden leaf branches on the models and the artwork really downgraded compared to the looks of newer skins (at least thats what I think). It was no longer about detailed multi piece armor but seemingly more about cutting down the time it takes to make the skin and artworks. By all means, the victorious skins aren't bad. Their animation effects are still some of the best ingame! All I'm saying is that with all the prestiege skins getting released and the skin prices rising and rising to justify higher quality on more expensive skins (which is fine), the victorious skins were simply left behind. They're not getting as much attention as they used to and quite frankly, after receiving sivir, graves, maokai and orianna I have to admit I didn't care about any single one of these skins. Be it because I don't play the champions or because I simply already own a Skin for them which is actually better than the victorious skin (Meowkai, Warden or Bloodmoon Sivir for example).
Someone already adressed this in a topic a few years back and said, you should never complain about a free, gifted skin. I think there is some truth to this, but the victorious skin isn't just a gift you get at the end of the season. It used the be "THE SKIN TO HAVE" when the season ended. Now it feels like every prestiege skin or recently released 1800 RP skin ended up better and with a higher quality than the victorious skins. Just consider the last two riven skins or valiant sword irelia. Those are amazing! And they're not even "THE VICTORIOUS SKIN". I think the victorious skin belongs to league like sugar to coca cola, and it seems like it has been forgotten and when you actually search the threads on victorious skins / topics, they're all years back. It seems to me noone ever criticized the looks, which is why I wan't to be the first one to do it. ;-)
I wonder wether someone feels similarly about the last victorious skins (season 5 and later) and I figured it might be good to look for a few more opinions on this, see if I am alone on this or if someone else feels the same way. Love to hear about it and who knows, maybe the next skin will be more like the beautiful skins from season 2 3 and 4. I personally would LOVE that! I loved the Gold dark blue-ish silver color pallet!! Cheers! See you on the rift, or maybe not if you're in NA :D
PS: Seeing the models and work done for the Worlds broadcast, these White/grey golden statues of champions, baron and remarkable structures from some of the worlds stage cities actually made me think of this. They're beautiful! Great work. I cant tell if they're cgi or actual models!
