[Champion Concept] Yone the Bloodletter
New Champ Concept
Yone The Bloodletter
Inspirations: •Male •Psycho - cold, calculated •Short range melee •HIGHLY mechanical •Entirely combo oriented •Fast and all over the place •High skill = high reward •Low skill = instafeeder •Not enough damage to 1v5 but can enable team to clean ace if played properly (note: very hard to play properly) •Hardest champ in the game to play •Can easily climb solo queue ladder if mastered (like Lee Sin) •Not a Bronze/Silver/Gold perma-pick/ban but likely so for plat and higher. (As players better understand the game his value increases)
Lore: After faking his death at the hands of his younger brother Yasuo, Yone crawled out from a shallow grave. If Yasuo breathed life into his blade when he fought, then Yone took its breath away. However, Yone knew his brother would best him in a duel. So, using all of his concentration, he allowed Yasuo to deal a serious, but not lethal blow to avoid a real fight. Yasuo's resulting fate as the Unforgiven was unfortunate, but Yone needed Yasuo on that path if Yone was to walk free. Yone was horrified that his own brother had come to kill him, and that fear turned to hate. He knew that the only way he would be satisfied was to kill Yasuo. It wasn't long before rumors arose of a fearsome swordsman leaving a trail of blood through the Ionian countryside. This swordsman challenged every warrior he came across, only to kill them with little resistance. Soon no one would accept Yone's challenge. His reputation was too stained with blood. So, Yone looked to the League of Legends to hone his skills and kill his brother.
"What is a sword without the man behind it?"
Skills:
•Passive: Blood Fury- Each of Yone's abilities that hits an enemy champion will grant a stack of Blood Fury. When Yone gains a stack of Blood Fury, the cooldowns of all of his abilities are reduced by 1 second. Blood Fury stacks begin to decay after 5 seconds.
Q: Wind Fang- Yone dashes to a target location and deals 40/80/120/160/200 (+1.0 AD) damage in an arc in front of him. Enemies hit with the tip of Yone's sword also take 5% of their missing health in bonus damage.
Cooldown: 18/15.5/13/10.5/8 Maximum Range: 475 Range of Sword Slash: 275
W: Cyclone Strike- Yone sweeps his blade and sends out a slicing gust of wind. Enemies hit by Cyclone Strike are dealt 40/60/80/100/120 (+0.5 AD) damage and are knocked up for .25 seconds.
Cooldown: 9/8/7/6/5 Range: 475 Width: 30
E: Whirlwind Dance- Yone performs a spinning attack, dealing 70/80/90/100/110 (+1.2 AD) damage all around him. Enemies not in front of Yone receive 30% reduced damage from Whirlwind Dance. Yone's basic attacks reduce the cooldown of Whirlwind Dance by 10% of its current cooldown.
Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 Range: 250 Radius: 275
R: Hurricane Blade- (After gaining at least 6 stacks of Blood Fury, Yone can use Hurricane Blade.) Yone leaps into the air and slashes his sword, summoning a massive hurricane. Enemies in the hurricane take 600/800/1000 (+2.5 AD) over 5 seconds. Enemies in the eye of the hurricane have their movement speed slowed by 40/50/60%. Yone also receives 40/60/80% attack speed for 10 seconds.
Cooldown: 110/100/90 Range: 475 Primary Radius: 275 Secondary Radius: 550
Notes on Champion and Abilities:
I wanted to create a champion that has to dive into team fights in order to achieve maximum usefulness. In addition, I felt that it would be cool to have a champion that is honestly OP, but incredibly hard to unlock that OP potential. For me that meant landing skillshot combos. All of Yone's abilities are skill shots, and he's a melee champ. Also, he doesn't have access to his ultimate ability without diving into a fight and landing multiple close range skillshot combos. To help him out, though, I gave Yone a Ryze-esque cooldown based passive. However, as Ryze is a team fight oriented, point-and-click combo based mage, Yone is a team fight oriented, skillshot combo based fighter. Now we'll look into Yone's abilities.
Yone's Q, Wund Fang, is a difficult to land dash attack. It's not difficult to dash, but the damage is delayed. Yone's attack animation starts the moment the dash ends, leaving a spit second delay between dash and applicable damage. In addition, bonus damage is applied for striking with the tip of Yone's sword, adding an execute mechanic for chases as well as an extra layer to the whole "be amazing with skill shots to do damage" idea.
Yone's W, Cyclone Strike, is a knock-up, piercing "missile". However, the missile width is incredibly slim. This means you can knock up multiple enemies, but you have to be surgically precise. Also, this ability has a fairly short range, so enemies have to be grouped for maximum knock-up. The applied knock-up is very short. This ability is not meant to be a fight turning cc, or an engage, or even a disengage. It is rather Yone's tool to completely disrupt the other team once he has jumped into them.
Yone's E, Whirwind Dance, is similar to Rven's Q, except with a different level of spammability. Similar to Riven, Yone is encouraged to weave auto-attacks in between abilities. Contrasting, though, whereas Riven's AA weaving applies bonus damage, Yone's AA weaving allows him to keep spamming his E. Whirlwind Dance is a bit of a dash, meaning that it moves Yone forward, but not much. I really did have Riven's Q in mind when I was thinking of this ability. Also, extra skill based damage mechanic comes from the bulk of the damage only being applied directly in front of Yone.
Yone's R, Hurricane Blade, is a massive AoE nuke. There is hope for the enemy team, though, in that the damage is dealt over time as the winds tear them to pieces. I had Nunu's ult in mind when I was coming up with Hurricane Blade. Some differences, though, from Absolute Zero lie in how the damage and crowd control are delivered. First, Hurricane strike is a short range targeted ability, whereas Absolute Zero is a channeled ability centered around Nunu. The damage of Nunu's ult is mitigated by the fact he has to channel it completely for maximum damage. In the same way, Yone and his team must keep the enemy team zoned inside the hurricane for maximum DPS. Because this is a targeted ability, I made it have a bit shorter range to keep Yone in the middle of the fight. Yone, as with all of his abilities, does get some love for accuracy with the AoE slow in the eye of the storm. For clarity, Yone is untargetable while he jumps in the air and summons the hurricane. The whole concept of Yone leaping into the air for his ultimate was part of a constant attempt to tie his character thematically to his brother Yasuo.
Now I'll mention other thoughts. Yone is meant to be a fighter or tank. As an assassin, he could probably dive into the back line and kill a carry, but he would then get instantly popped. Defense is necessary for Yone to stay in fights and keep disrupting the enemy team. I think he would benefit most from a standard fighter build of TriForce-BotRK-tank items. However, his disruptive abilities do allow him to build full tank if needed. I see Yone as a top lane champ, but who knows. I chose Yone as a character, even though the lore says he died, because It was easier for me to have an existing character and theme to build off of than start entirely from scratch. As a result, the lore I wrote isn't amazing, but I wanted something to get the theme going. I felt some small amount of backstory was needed to explain his title of Bloodletter, which explains his Passive, and his relationship to Yasuo explains the windy theme of his abilities. Yone's main inspiration comes from Marth's play style in Super Smash Bros. combined with the cold and calculated misguided evil of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. Also, as a final thought, I have included numbers with Yone's abilities, but they are merely based on similar abilities if other champs and hold no real merit. In addition, I didn't inclide any of Yone's base stat values, because I don't even know where to begin with those and probably just would have copied them from similar characters.
Thanks for reading! This is my first champ design so I probably overlooked some serious details, but I appreciate you checking out Yone and I look forward to your suggestions!
