My Thoughts On Jhin
Dear Rito,
I've been playing League for about three to four years now. The first "season" I remember actually realizing I existed in was season 3. I've seen a lot of stuff happen during that time, for good or for bad. But what I have seen now has truly shaken my trust in Rito itself.
Now, I'm a support main. Used to be one, until I found Jhin. His playstyle was perfect; the planning, execution and finale of each kill was exhilarating. I went from playing people such as Janna and Lulu to nearly only Jhin. That was, until patch 6.17 was released. I'm okay with nerfs, honestly, he was pretty powerful, but there were two words used to describe Jhin that really triggered me. They called him a "Utility Marksman". According to my studies, they believe that, rather than being an assassin, he is more fitted to basically being a long-ranged CC support, using his W and R for CC rather than perfect kills. Now, while I'm all for team play, I had the idea that Jhin's teamwork would be his allies getting in on his plan (Blitzcrank pulling Cait into baron-pit trap etc.), not him acting like an Ashe. I was horrified by those two words, "Utility Marksman", which is what triggered me leaving the game ever since I read those patch notes.
I ask not for much from Riot, but I do ask for my champion back. Balancing Jhin around the idea of him being able to stop enemies from moving will result in a completely different champion from one that uses planning and cunning to kill enemies outright. (Nothing beats pink wards into traps near an epic monster. Bait them with pink and root them right over the now aggro'd epic monster) Right now he may still play and feel like what he was supposed to be, but if Riot considers him a Utility marksman, it's not long before patch notes begin to slowly reduce this style of play and slowly begin to enhance his ability to support his team the way Alistar or Thresh might. I am currently working on a rework for Jhin that would, in case Riot strays too far from his roots, should bring him back with more complexity and dedication to what he stands for than even the current Jhin does (Although it would almost never be added into the game). I sincerely hope that Rito might see this, and stray from this path. Don't call Jhin a "Utility Marksman". Call him what he is. A Cunning Serial Killer.
Thank you, Graceless Hawk.
