I have an idea to combat taxic players - creating Guilds!!!

League of Legends is one of my favourite all time games but I feel as if toxic players ruin the experience for me more often than not which stops me from playing. I do not always have friends on to play with, let alone being able to get 5 friends together which leaves open the possibility of a toxic random who can ruin the game for everyone. The reporting system does not work but I have a solution; creating guilds.

The issue with toxic players is that they are too difficult for RIOT to regulate, there are to many of them with to little to lose. However if they are apart of a guild and are playing a game with guild members then I feel that they are far less likely to be toxic as if they are they will get kicked and then be left to play with the other toxic players. It will also include anther level of comradery if people are working together to get guild achievements and awards. More experienced guild members can teach less experienced members and it will add to the spirit of the game.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your overwhelming support and amazing ideas! I am sorry that I am new to boards and do not know how to get to all of your posts. I hope that RIOT sees this and works to get us guilds ASAP!

... THIS IDEA IS FUCKING BRILLIANT! First: great a guild friends hang out, have fun, a general chat... Second: have a hall of banners where all teams which the guild "sponsors" have their ranks displayed Third: an arena that sets up 1v1's for guildmates to watch Fourth: An IP sink, upgrade parts of the guild, it'd just be an additional tab in client, but it could be made to look like a hall with doors that lead into rooms, I.E. upgrade the hall of banners, Bronze (starter) Silver (10,000 IP) Gold (100,000) IP Plat (500,000) Diamond (1,000,000) IP since these would be group contributions they would work as an IP sink for multiple players, have five rooms and i seriously doubt anyone could self sponsor an entire guild. Additionally have little guild tournaments winner gets some kind of IP bonus... It'd be really cool

I would love a guild of goofballs who enjoy having fun when they play I wouldnt care if they were all bronze. Just as long as they know to have fun and not too competitive and.are willing to do fun things in game try new things.

God damn those taxic players, always taking minions from my lane without ganking. ):

This feels like it could easily become a Island Prison arrangement.

"Oh you don't have a Guild? Off with the toxics with you"

That's a hyperbole, but the idea of it stands.

Riot/Tencent SHOULD implement this. I bet they won't after 15 years.

I love this idea! So many times the game has gone to pooh because people act up badly or troll so hard.

Why is this in the skin concept area? But otherwise this sounds like a great idea!

Rito pls this would be really cool

I never feel obligated to join a guild. Good idea though! It could work really well!

I like how you have the taxic typo. Made me read with an accent XD. But the idea you got is good too

This would be great, and I don't know why Riot hasn't implemented this yet (it seems like a baseline feature of many online teambased games). I think implementing more communication- and team-focused features would drastically ameliorate player toxicity, at least compared to "improving" the report system. On the same note, IN-GAME VOICE CHAT - like holy shit, why are they dragging their feet on this?

I feel like a lot of rage in solo queue comes from team misplays that result from poor communication, like initiating with Skarner while the rest of your team retreats. You get frustrated, then you get mad, then GODDAMN WTF STUPID ASS TEAM. Sure, the smart pings definitely help, but it would be soooo much easier to just talk , something like "Imma ult follow me go in go in". And it's not like this is something zany like Team Builder, this is something that literally every online multiplayer game has. It seems like low-hanging fruit, low effort on Riot's part for a high reward. What the fuck.

TFW they announce clubs 2 days after this post

Kereda11/2/2015, 7:22:32 PM2 votes

They have something like this in Smite, except its called a clan. Like a lot of games with clans you get a little abbreviated name in front of your in game name like you do in ranked 5s. They have weekly bonuses like win (x) games in a certain game mode while playing with clan members and earn clan points. I think it's pretty cool

I still prefer LoL gameplay over Smite, but out of game smite has a some interesting things that league could implement. Like every day you log in you get and increasing bonus (on a 7 day rotation) of Smite's equivalent of IP and on the 6th/7th day you would get a small amount of RP. If you don't log in for one day it resets though. They also have win of the day for each of their available game modes, imagine getting win of the day for summoner's rift, aram, twisted tree line, and dominion.

This sounds really cool. I'd be interested in joining a guild just to have more friends to play with and learn from the more experienced players of the group.

LongSh4dows11/2/2015, 11:20:56 PM2 votes

Other than earning achievements and awards, how is this different from befriending players you enjoyed dropping with?

kile14711/2/2015, 7:12:07 PM2 votes

Logged in just to upvote, this is a neat concept that could really help the game if implemented well.

Oh wow. I never thought of this before. I really like this idea! Not even just for toxicity reasons, which it would no doubt help. Simply because I know that while I am, simply by nature, an unsociable person, clicking that little 'accept' button when somebody randomly invited my level 15 Night Elf to their guild was one of the best decisions I've ever made in video games. I've noticed that guilds have a way of growing on you, causing you to be sociable and make friends even when that was nowhere near your original intention. Also, having a group of people you can always find a group and play a quick game with would be a great thing in a game like this- ranked teams have a similar feel, but they're really limited to the amount of people you can have, and it would be significantly better than inviting random friends into a group together. And of course, if you play with somebody in your guild and you find them to be an unsavoury type, there could be a system to report them. Wow. I didn't know I needed this. It seems kind of like an obvious thing a game like this should have now?

LyrebirdSong11/2/2015, 7:28:47 PM2 votes

I would love this. This is a really sound idea with clear benefits. I like that it could help build a community feel around the game. I particularly like the idea that more experienced players could mentor less experienced players. You could have a network larger than your 'friends' to organise games with and hopefully, the guild would be populated by people with a gaming philosophy that shares your own. Perhaps the guild could have its own rewards system where it awards titles based on matches one, peers mentored, MVP etc

I wonder about how you could go about joining a guild in the first place though. Unlike MMO's where there are lots of people running around and you can see the different guild names and ask to be invited, with league you would have arguably far less contact with guilds, particularly if they players only team up with their guild mates.

manamajeffff11/2/2015, 11:03:18 PM2 votes

Toxicity is something you will always have to deal with, and you'll even find your friends being salty at times. My advice is always mute the enemy team, sure you can make a friend but most of the time its either players being toxic or bad manners that are written in all chat. Secondly, the mute button is out there for your allies as well. Your GUILD is your friends list, thus only keep the ones you enjoy having around and there must be more than five. The reason for the friends list is to have someone to invite, so this may never happen as 1) it can be avoided and 2) it doesn't affect the LCS so RIOT doesn't care.

I feel like this is obsolete with Riot's announcement about Clubs. THEY HEARD US!

Omnem Occido11/4/2015, 5:14:48 AM1 votes

I love this idea. It has a lot of potential and there could be a plethora of ways to encourage good play. Here are some ideas I thought of:

  • Guilds would be hosted by a five-man group of individuals called the Guild Masters. It takes five people to start the guild, and those five people will serve as the initial Guild Masters. At the end of each preseason, an election will take place within the Guild. To be a candidate for the Guild Master, you must have been a member of the guild in the past season for at least two months prior to the Worlds Championship, you must not have any bans over that last season, regardless of whether you were in the Guild when the ban was enacted, and you must log at least 5 hours of play time each week during the preseason. Guild Masters will be held to a high level of responsibility: during their tenure, should they be banned, be inactive for over two weeks in a row, or fail to take part in Guild decisions (with a three day grace period); they will be subsequently removed. If a Guild Master loses his or her title, they will be replaced by the other four Guild Masters, who will appoint a new Guild Master to make five. While there is a Guild Master position open, all Guild decisions will be suspended until the vacancy is filled. Guild Masters will partake in legislation of the Guild. Potential rules will be presented to the rest of the Guild Masters by an individual Guild Master. At the beginning of the Guild, the original Guild Masters will have a week long period in which they may enact legislation by means of a vote between them, where three of five votes finalizing the rule. After this period, when the Guild Masters vote on a law, any that pass will go on to be voted on by the Guild, where a majority vote for it will finalize the rule. The removal of rules will also be handled in this manner. Guild Masters will also be responsible for the removal and addition of constituents. Guild members who have been found guilty of breaking a Guild rule. through weight of evidence, will be judged by the Guild Masters. The Guild Masters will then vote on whether the member should be removed. A majority vote will remove the member. When a new Guild member wishes to join, he will be queued. Guild Masters will have access to recent game history, as well as ban history, of all applicants before they vote to accept or deny the applicant. Denied applicants will have to wait a month before reapplying. Guild Masters can also put a block on new applications to prevent them from being overwhelmed with new applications when they do not want any at that time.

  • At the creation of the Guild, the Guild will be assigned a color scheme by the Guild Masters. The Guild Masters will also be able to create a banner for their guild, but the banner must be approved by Riot. The banner will be made into a Summoner Icon that members can display. Each Guild will also get it's own special tag that will go at the end of it's members' summoner name. Lastly, the Guild will choose a champion that will serve as the Guild Paragon. Members of the Guild that own that champion will get a Chroma Skin for that champion that relates to the Guild's color scheme as long as they are a member of the guild. Also, Guild Masters will gain a special icon and in-game emote that will allow them to display the fact that they are a Guild Master.

  • Guilds will accrue status as it's members are honored. If a player within a Guild receives a banner, the guild will be granted Guild Points and Guild Reputation. Guild Points can be redeemed by its Guild Masters, after a vote, to unlock new summoner icons or ward skins for the members of the Guild. Guild members cannot honor players who belong to their own guild.

  • At the end of the season, Guild rewards will be handed out to Guilds whose members have performed exceptionally well on the whole. If, at the end of a season, no current members of a Guild, who number over 40 members, were banned that season, the members of the Guild will be granted the opportunity to buy "Guild Elite" skins, mirroring Championship and Victorious Skins. Also, Guilds will be placed into tiers based on its Guild Reputation percentile, compared to the rest of the Guilds. Members will have access to specific rewards based on the tier the Guild falls under, such as free IP bonuses. Guild Masters will also have a set of rewards special to them alone if their Guild performs well.

  • Members of Guilds can join a chat system that will allow them to set up games with other players of similar ELO to them. Members who play with others of their guild will win an IP bonus for their first game of the day with their fellow members.

I really hope that something like this happens though.

You can already create guilds. Create a new chat channel that's unique and share it with friends.

Negtharayas11/4/2015, 5:50:27 PM1 votes

This is a very good idea, and there has been lots of excellent commentary on the topic so far. However, it seems that much of this line of thought will be satisfied by the announced future CLUBS http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/site/2016-season-update/social.html . It seems as if Rito does understand the need as much as we do, which is a very good thing. So happy about this.
