Alternate game modes
First off this is my first time posting on the boards - but there is a first time for everything. My summoner name is Ninevite, and I have been playing since season 1 (poorly mind you but that still that counts [Silver V here]). I love the varying game modes cycle that Riot is doing every weekend. I love being able to play a varying game mode each week that makes things different. At this point my favorite mode is doom bots although the harrowing event was pretty fun too - the one where Riot tried new items, with upgradeable minions for silver krakens and such... Here are my thoughts however to add new game modes.

Riot games worked hard to make the Dominion game mode. It didn't get a lot of love later in it's life but it might be fun to bring it back once a year or something. Plus it gives those new players a game mode that brings strength to champions that don't always see a lot of play.

Another interesting game mode might be one in which removed items are back such as heart of gold philosopher stone or Zhonya's ring (RIP). To make the game mode more unique since just changing the item selection is not enough you could add factions - Ionia, noxus (I apologize I cant figure out how to spell Noxus and I am too lazy to look of the storyline of
), Freljord, Bandle city, haunted isle, Shurima etc. You would choose the faction you wanted to play and get placed with other people in that faction to choose from. people can only choose champions from one faction. Since queues could be longer with more than two factions maybe just starting with the main two Ionia and Noxus could work. -
another game mode that has been on my mind for a bit is a game mode much like humans vs zombies if you have played the game. The nexus is in the middle of the map with 5 lanes like spokes of a wheel. the goal is for 5-10 champs to hold out as long as they can against waves of minions. Perhaps the minions that game mode where we could turn in silver krakens to upgrade minions could be used. They would be sent in minion waves as normal and every couple of waves there would be a boss that appears someone on the map. Also mini bosses could be sent through the lanes to add pressure. The boss needs to be dealt with or it will provide buffs to the minion waves or long ranged attacks to turrets or de-buffs to the champions. Things would start out easy but get progressively harder as time goes on. Whenever a champion is beaten they become infected and when they respawn they respawn as an enemy. Now they try to help the minions take the nexus. Buffs could also be used to make things fun like this minion/boss deals true damage or this damage cannot be healed or each stack reduces movement speed cumulatively etc.
I miss philosopher's stone... Although 
is a new favorite item.
