Ryze Rework Concept
Ryze, The Rune Mage Rework Concept
TL;DR: Tasked myself with creating a more engaging and fun way to play The Rune Mage, Ryze.
Abilities
PASSIVE - Momentum Shift - Ryze's Q can stop any enemy projectile in its tracks also transforming the projectile into a sphere of energy that can be re cast back at enemies using Runic Shot.
Q - Runic Shot - Ryze throws a skill shot rooting the first enemy it hits. If Runic Shot hits an enemy projectile Ryze's passive Momentum Shift will trigger and leave a floating sphere of energy that can be re cast by pressing Q. On impact the sphere of energy will do magic damage. Anytime there is a sphere of energy within range of Ryze pressing Q will command the sphere. If the sphere of energy kills its target a new sphere will lay where the target died.
W - Realm Warp - Ryze can teleport himself a short distance
E - Mark of the Runes - Ability that can be cast on enemy champions or enemy minions marking them for 4 seconds. When marked both forms of Ryze's Q Runic Shot will inflict bonus magic damage. Runic Shot will reset if Ryze lands the sphere of energy ability on a marked target. If a marked target dies the mark travels to enemies near the target.
R - Energy Transfer - Ryze can transform any minion or enemy champion that is below 15% hp into a sphere of energy.
Ability Breakdown
PASSIVE: Momentum Shift - This passive is basically the starting point of Ryzes new kit in this concept and I believe this will give Ryze that feeling of a struggle between him and his opponent in game. In Ryze's new cinematic Call of Power he fights a Vel'koz type creature and uses the creatures attack against it and I feel that scene inspired me when creating this passive.
Q: Runic Shot - I tried to keep the skill shot aspect of Ryze in this ability but almost combined his current W that snares enemies and the new creation of the sphere of energy into one ability to make some room for some utility. Ryze can also leave the zone where he can cast the sphere of energy and use the basic part of his Q instead the sphere of energy will stay in place for 10 seconds before dissipating
W: Realm Warp - Obviously this is a toned down version of Ryze's current ultimate that I felt would be good to preserve although in this concept it only teleports himself. The ability would also teleport him faster than his current ultimate would.
E: Mark of the Runes - keeping the marking system that Ryze currently has I thought would be important as it still would fit in with his new damaging abilities so the mark acts in the same way it used to but the damage shouldn't come from just pressing the ability's repeatedly.
R: Energy Transfer - This one I feel really helps give Ryze the sustain he needs if he is not always up against someone with a skill shot. This ability itself would be a point and click. its more of a tool used to summon a sphere of energy so Ryze can do the damage he needs to do. The cooldown for this ability would be around 60 seconds even though it can instantly kill a champion with less than 15% hp, If the enemy champion is full health Energy Transfer will do nothing, The ability when used on champions is meant to be an execution that can lead Ryze into his next fight.
Main Goal
Ryze is the champion Riot has reworked over and over but never got right. Button spamming is one of his biggest downfalls in my opinion. There is no thinking that goes into Ryze. You press QEQWQEQ over and over with no real challenge. I hoped with this new kit Ryze would be able to have defining ability's that can make a meaningful impact on a fight while also making him less of a spam ability's champion.
I thought since Ryze is such an important champion in Leagues lore he should have a crazy ability that can display his true power. By giving him the ability to stop projectiles and use them against his foes I feel as though he will finally live up to the strength in his lore.
I thought of this idea over night and there are most likely numerous problems. But that said if you like the main idea of the kit Please feel free to comment and let me know what you like and don't like about the concept, there is definitely room for improvement... Something I'm already starting to notice is how he may be to weak in the jungle. Maybe if we work at this with enough of the community we can get Riot to comment on it and ultimately change him once more.
