Wukong Rework ideas
Let me preface this by saying that as a wukong main, I thoroughly enjoy his kit. He's one of the most versatile champions in the game in regards to build paths..
From Lifesteal to crit to movement speed to tenacity to on-hit effects to resistance or hp oriented builds, there is really no cookie cutter spec he's [forced] into. With options to focus on tanking, damage, sticking to targets, single target, aoe; even the ability to build your own CC (frozen mallet, deadman's plate, randuins omen, etc).. the world is your oyster. You can force enemies to build against you, or build against them. The choice is always yours. Some like cheap builds for early game power, some like more expensive builds to become late game hyper-carries.
Wukong's kit? It's one with great scaling (Q/R), gap close(E), aoe(E/W/R), attack speed buff(E), armor pen(Q), knockup(R), AP (W), Escape (E/W/R), Movement speed (R), attack range (Q), and resistances(P). If his kit could speak it would say you can do everything but sustain.
His gameplay is pretty straight forward. There will always be a minority that pref to build Q before E, and in some situations i can even get on board with it. He has some room for skilled play with Decoy jukes and ability blocking/baiting, some serious distance clearing for ganks from behind walls from far away as jungler. Can even use some of this stuff in support role.
With all that said, his gameplay still feels lacking. It's good, but it could be better. I don't mind if you disagree but i just want to make it clear that i don't think wukong is a bad champ, he's just a little stale and outdated. Some visual effects alone could make the martial arts monkey feel a little more WUJU.
(1) One of my thoughts was to take the versatility out of wukong. Make him into a tank. Tanks need to be able to deal damage without building damage. Wukong is a perfect candidate for an AoE tank. Take the scaling off his Q and R and make them base damage abilities similar to E with a respectable output so that wukong can build tank items. In that scenario I'd like to see Q become a cone-style damage ability (think built in titanic hydra). This would allow players to choose between maxing Q or E. it would make him into a 100% aoe champ that wouldn;t want to build AD as his base damages are high but scalings are low, players will build tank.
(2) Another thought was putting more emphasis on Wukong's decoy. I'm not saying Wukong;s decoy needs to go, but people tend to forget or not know that the 2 decoys out of Wukongs E also block abilities. how about a different use for that, maybe fighting decoys similar to azir soldiers? allow his Q to become a gap close/slam ability all in 1? Possibly get rid of the taret abilities and give him some skill shot gap close so he can finally jump over the walls everyone else is.
(3) I've also thought about a more customized kit where maybe the player chooses Wukongs Wuju style per game, similar to Kayne. Maybe he could have 2 different kits, one focused on decoys and stealth and trick play, and one focused on martial arts, staff and attack range, and nimbus cloud speed? Maybe one could be an aoe kit and one a single target, one a tank and one an assassin.
Just a few ideas. I don't want to see wukong become OP and perma banned. I like his versatility but i'd like you to be able to specialize his kit in each game, not just his build. Is he the martial arts expert or the tricky fun loving monkey
