After an ability cast your next auto on champion well grant ~12% base ad or 6% ap [adaptive] for 3 seconds extended by .5 seconds whenever you suffer damage up to a maximum of 6 aa will lower cd by 1 second (.25 for range) ability usage lower cd it by 3 (1 for range)

Base ad favors high base ad champs (juggernauts and bruisers) ap cuz y not make a bruiser ap play style for it extended damage because auto will draw minion aggro and will extend to max for melee right away while not often for range
