Best path to take for an aspiring concept artist?

Hello everyone (:

I'm interested in becoming a professional concept artist, up to now I've been mainly self-taught. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction because I'm not sure whether going to college would be the right path? I'm well aware that there are many professional artists that have never been to college for art but which college would you recommend?

College is a huge decision. You're the only one who can make it, especially since it relies on a lot of external/personal factors like income, location, et cetera.

Have you ever worked as an artist before? If not, I would suggest getting a job or internship first, because self-taught artistry done at your own pace is a completely different experience. Employers have deadlines, require you to work with other people, meet certain criteria, and use different tools.

If you can do that and enjoy it, I'd say college is something you should think about it.

edit: (assuming you haven't done so already) And if you're ever looking for something to do in the free time or want more experience, consider making an Artstation or Tumblr where you do commissions. You can add them to your portfolio, make connections and a bit of cash on the side, and hone your skills.

Do arts in university , not for the paper mind you as thats worthless , but for the connections. You need the right connections to make that proffesion work .

As a freelancer you'll be selling masterpieces out on the street for a low buck .

Good luck !
