New Champion Role, and Future Champ Roles

So, I was chatting with my friends about the new FLOWER champ, and what role(s) they might end up playing (e.i. mid lane mage, assassin, support, whatever) and it got me thinking. Honestly, when looking at the list of champs we have, and the roles they all occupy, I was surprised at how many champs there are for each role combo. And It got me thinking about what roles we could use more of.

We have 19 assassin fighters, 7 assassin mages, 5 assassin marksmen, 1 assassin support (best champ), no assassin tanks, 8 fighter mages, only 4 fighter marksmen and fighter supports (I still don't get how gangplank is a "support", but whatever), 26 fighter tanks, 5 mage marksmen, 15 mage supports, 5 mage tanks, 1 marksman support, no marksman tanks, and 3 support tanks (this all based off the in game champ store) (and not including champs that only occupy a single role, like Xayah only being labeled marksman, or Rakan only being labeled a support)

Looking at these numbers, it leaves a few roles to be desired, at least in my opinion. I'd love to see more of these roles filled out; more assassin marksmen and supports, fighter marksmen and supports, mage marksmen and tanks, marksmen supports, and support tanks! And I'd especially love to see roles that seem impossible, like assassin tanks and marksman tanks. Obviously, I'm not gonna claim I know anything about balancing, but I feel like it'd be really cool to see some completely different concepts! Maybe an assassin tank with a lot of health and damage output, but with a huge flaw, like no mobility or halved move speed or something.

I don't know why but just thinking about basic ideas and concepts like this are really fun for me. What do you think? Any role combos you'd like to see with future champs? Any thoughts on my ideas? Let me know! This is my first post on here, and I'd love to hear feedback on ideas, and champions, regardless if they're plausible or not!

I think that assassin tanks would be identical to the diver subclass of fighters or any skirmisher building semi-tanky. Here are some examples of divers according to Riot: Diana Camille Elise Irelia JarvanIV LeeSin Pantheon Rengar Vi MonkeyKing XinZhao

Here are some examples of skirmishers according to Riot: Yasuo Riven Jax Fiora

Tanks have defenses + CC. Assassins have offense + mobility. Divers are mixed generalists of all of the above, and skirmishers can often build some defenses to practically become divers with more lategame scaling. Because divers and skirmishers have all of the strengths that an assassin tank hybrid would be able to inherit, I think that the lack of tank assassin hybrids is really just an issue of classifications rather than an actual absence.

By the way, the information you are looking at for champion classes is super outdated. I remember why Gangplank was classified as a support, and it was because he used to grant an aura buff to nearby allies with an old version of his E called Raise Morale. That ability was removed years ago and Riot never updated his class on some pages... Unless they still consider him a support because he can theoretically add Raise Morale to his ultimate, but he can't reliably collect enough Silver Serpents to even do so from the support role...

I think there are some missing role combinations though. There are no enchanter (support) juggernaut (fighter) hybrids for example. There used to be one, but he was reworked and became a regular juggernaut: Yorick The closest remaining match is probably TahmKench but he has too much CC to be a proper juggernaut and his supportive utility keeps getting nerfed so he hardly feels like an enchanter (and never totally did). There is also no enchanter assassin, though a trickster like Shaco could be a catcher (another type of controller/support) assassin hybrid. I think some enchanter marksman hybrids do exist, but their power budget is skewed way too far into playing like regular damage-dealer marksmen because there are no utility marksmen items for them to build and marksmen itemization is all balanced around stacking multiplicative damage with no room for mixing in any utility items.

What kind of stat is this? Like role wont matter too much. Like you said they have gangplank labeled as a support so it doesnt really have that big of an impact right?

I hope the next Champion is a Big Old Tank. Nothing fancy, just a bucket full of HP, Armor and MR.
