Concept for New player experience system to replace the current.

Current system is horrible. In every aspect it is utterly terrible at doing everything it ever hoped to do and even hopes to do very little compared to other games.

Your account has a game mastery page similar to your profile.

It shows the following mechanics:

  • Wards (more clear term than vision, as vision to a new player could mean something different, every term has to be VERY CLEAR)
  • Income (more inline than the term "farming")
  • Objectives (Killing towers, taking dragon, showing an understanding of how the objectives work at a base level)

Then, splitting off from that in sort of a tree, shows the different champions you've shown the best results in recently Each champion has different statistics attached to them, and a mastery system (current one is irrelevant, and too facebooky to be useful) that is attached to your RESULTS with the champion.

The stats with each champion will be (ranked in order of most + or - from the average)

  • Damage per minute
  • CS per minute
  • KDA
  • Kill participation
  • % of team's deaths

Once you hit a baseline mastery level consistent with players in bronze 5 and higher, and your normal MMR overlaps with the normal mmr of bronze 5 players, the ranked queue will unlock, putting your mmr in bronze 5, and starting your ranked placements from there.

The reason I feel starting the ranked ladder at bronze 5, instead of plopping people into silver 5 and going up or down from there, is that right now, and I say this from putting an account in bronze 3 and getting it out pretty quickly, is that there is a huge "vacuum" in bronze, where players are not playing consistently enough for their ranking and mmr to matter at all whatsoever below 1100-1200, but also they are never being REALLY challenged to improve. They simply play a ton of games and if they are pre-disposed to improving by just playing, they will get out. If they aren't, and have no affinity for the game, they will stay in bronze until someone drags them out.

Getting out of 1100 mmr requires 1250 mmr understanding of the game. This is why, atleast for me, I always spend the least time getting 1100-1250, it takes 3 games at the most. But for the brackets around it, it takes a bit longer.

This would push the very baseline understanding to bronze 5.

What about smurfs though?

Well, current system has smurfs trashing silver 5 players, then silver 3, silver 1, gold 4, etc.

The mastery system requires a lot of games (not as much as the current system) to hit the required game mastery level. This acts as levels but goes up SIGNIFICANTLY faster the more skilled you are at each aspect. Paired with mmr, you can get a really accurate starting point for placement games.

Think of game mastery like levels, but only 10 levels for each different mechanic, essentially, if you are good at all 3 already, you are leveling 3x faster.

Advantages:

  • no more 250 game hard requirement for ranked.
  • more accurate matchmaking for new players, due to 2 different mmr systems that analyze actual game performance, reducing the tsunami effect that some new players go through (being carried in 3-4 games by smurfs, getting destroyed in every game but still playing against better and better players)
  • does not treat every single player the same, it adapts to the player's speed of learning, and provides feedback for learning the game's more spooky mechanics.
  • provides a clear path to improvement and does so transparently.

REMOVED:

  • Level system

  • current champion mastery (that shit is garbage and pointless. The 2.5 million mastery point jayce that can't even hit the GATE with a shockblast, let alone another player.) KEEP THE BADGES AND EMOTES, just attach them to results instead of games played.

  • https://gyazo.com/f8e39ef7416ad012d15ffd5a1d3e7938 these games

  • Prevents the problem of having 3000 "new player elo" because you are plat 1, and then playing against diamond 3-2 as soon as you get into lvl 28-29 and it can't find players. If you got to this point you'd just be able to play ranked back at level 20, instead of having to play 200 more games for level 30 against level 30s.

Also, more opportunity for rewards, because people love to unlock "achievements" like "TIER 3 WARDING REQUIREMENT ACCOMPLISHED! RANKED UNLOCKED."
