Thresh Rework
Reading into Thresh's lore was interesting. I found myself looking at his kit, and wondering what his flay, lantern and ultimate truly have to do with him being a "spectral abomination". His passive makes sense, as he collects souls of the dead. His hook (i suppose) is used to pull himself closer the those he wants to torture. I'm offering this as an idea.
The hook should be kept in his kit somehow. Perhaps particle changes could be made, as it feels clunky compared to all of the new reworked champions in the past updates.
His passive is great. It directly correlates to his lore. However, reading one section gave me an idea. (the section i'm referring to -> "Thresh did not lose his identity. Rather, his penchant for cruel torture and ability to discern weakness was only heightened.") How about instead of a scaling ap and armor ratio from whenever he collects souls.... the souls are used to give an ally armor pen (the adc he lanes with) or it could be used similarly to how exhaust
works (but with a smaller scaling ratio that builds up through his passive). This could be one of his activatable abilities, with the passive to that said ability being his current passive. This could have a great outplay potential. If the enemy team isn't paying atention, this could essentially negate a damage dealer, or make a tank's stats useless for a small window. On the flip side, if the enemies are paying atention... they would know to watch out for how much of his passive he has built up.
Again, his hook feels normal. It feels right. I imagine a spectral being wanting to torture people having this. It just (in my opinion) needs to be worked on to be more smooth. Perhaps lower the range, but allow him to be moving while he's casting it. Similar to LeBlanc's
Ethereal Chains.
Trying to keep the lantern in his lore and the fact that he's a support in mind was tricky. I wanted this to be a damaging ability, while giving utility to his kit. In the lore, his lantern was used for vision. Illuminating the night sky and allowing him to see where he was going. This lead me to think of the Shen rework
, and how his new Twilight Assault works. His lantern should be used similarly to that. He places it down as an ability that works as a ward and disappears when he leaves the vicinity. I think it should lose the shield or the ability to pull a team-mate. His lore says nothing about him being a team oriented being of the underworld. instead, it could be a damage over time ability that works similarly to how karthus's
Defile works (without the mana return on enemy unit death as he's a support).
Going back to the lore, (Thresh wrenched his chains hard. For a moment, the man did not move. Then the ripping began. Like a rough-spun sheet being slowly torn, he was excruciatingly pulled from himself. His body convulsed violently, and blood sprayed along the walls.“Now, we begin,” said Thresh. He pulled the captured soul, pulsing brightly from the end of the chain, and trapped him within the lantern. The man’s hollow corpse collapsed as Thresh departed.) I believe his lantern should be used as a zoning tool. Like a mixture of an Oriana
ball, and a Galio
ultimate. He could have thrown his ultimate in a location, and if enemies are within a certain range, the lantern pulls them in for a short duration and deals damage over time (so as not to make him like a bursty mage). If all of the enemy team that is alive is in the ult when it goes off, there could be some extra damge that is dealt to give off the whole torture-lover vibe.
This is all just a concept I came up with. I play a lot of thresh, as the concept of him in his lore really caught my attention. Let me know what you think down below in the poll.
