Weather Champion Concept
I've been thinking of a weather-related champion and thought it'd be cool to have a global effect passive where it rains, shined, or snowed on everyone. But I think that would cause the entire game to crash and lag. So I thought of this instead. ALL NAMES AND NUMBERS ARE WORKS IN PROGRESS
Champion Name: Sonnett Role: Mage (a fore_caster_ haha) Lane: Mid
Lore: Sonnet was adopted as a child by a counsel of ancient weather deities that are no longer worshiped, but continue to control the weather. These deities live above the sky on a certain cloud which is where they watch over and conduct experiments. Sonnet grew up learning the ways of controlling weather and surrounded by these deities. That was until he turned 18 and got kicked out by the counsel to fend for his own. Barely surviving the fall, Sonnet now wanders the land with his knowledge of weather and a special oil lamp that not only gives off infinite warmth and light and has infinite oil, but allows Sonnet to control the weather himself. Sonnet tells others that it's an ancient artifact that the weather deities used to manipulate the weather, but no one believes him for what gods does he speak of? Sonnet travels in pursuit of a home that will accept him.
Appearance: Sonnet wears dirty white pants and a busted vest. He is young, bright, but has trouble trusting others from what he's been through. The oil lamp he carries is old, but shines a strong, formidable light.
Concept: Sonnet's domain is the river. It's where he has control. He is not as strong and powerful as other midlaners, but he makes up for it with impact of the entire field, just as the weather does. (the snow weather can help his team snowball )
Kit: Passive: Sonnet's auto-attacks gain extra effects based on the weather (refer to his w move)
Sun: Applies a small burn (to champions, minions, jungle camps but not for Dragon or Baron) (can stack with ignite and q) Rain: Small Bonus AP damage Snow: Applies a short slow
Q: Weather Ball (point-and-click) Sonnet throws a ball that hovers above the selected target that soon drops and deals splash damage in a small radius (similar to Tristana). The ball applies special effects based on the weather (refer to his w move)
Sun: Deals a small burn to all hit (can stack with passive and ignite) Rain: Champions hit deal reduced damage Snow: Deals bonus AP damage
W: Climate Change Sonnet raises his orb and changes the weather, that changes the river itself, giving it different effects. Each change in weather lasts for 30 seconds. Weather patterns cannot be cancelled once they are activated.
Sun: The river dries up and sunlight beams through the fog of ward, placing a ward in certain places for how long this weather lasts. The wards may be destroyed by enemies with red trinket. Rain: The river gets filled with rain and flows with excess water. The river becomes impassable terrain (champions may not jump into it). Enemy champions that are inside the river when this weather pattern is activated gets pushed towards the side lanes and past the bushes of mid lane (essentially exposing them). They are pushed to the lane they are closest, the line splits in the middle of the pits. Enemy champions are grounded while being pushed. Allied champions are slowed by 90% and are grounded, but they are not pushed towards the lanes. Snow: The river gets frozen over. Sonnet gains movement speed walking over the river but not in the bushes.
E: Cloud Capture Ball (point-and-click) Sonnet throws a storm cloud that stuns the unit for 1 second. This is not affected by weather patterns.
R: Incoming Storm Sonnet channels into his orb and applies a status effect to every enemy champion based on the weather. This cannot be used if there is no weather pattern.
Sun: All enemy champions get ignited
Rain: All enemy champions get exhausted
Snow: All enemy champions are marked
Sonnet can click R on a marked champion and travel to them.
How does his W work? First, the player clicks W, activating the spell. His q, w, e change into different weathers that each have separate cooldowns. Clicking Q after W changes the weather to Sun. Clicking W after W changes the weather to rain. Clicking E after W changes the weather to snow. Clicking R after the W cancels the W. The W move itself does not have a cooldown, but the weathers do, and there can only be one weather at a time. So if one weather is active, the others can't be used until after the weather has passed.
Counterplay: Sonnet has shorter ranges, so he can be harassed by other champions. He does not deal as much damage as other champions either. Using the wrong weather at the wrong time can really mess him up.
Commentary: The river is very important to Sonnet. He can use it to escape, to set up ganks, to force a bad gank, or just to gain certain effects. His ganks are helpful, but often leaves his lane weak as he has bad waveclear (which mostly comes from auto-attacks and making enemy minions weaker than yours with Rain Ball). Making it rain can really affect the flow of the game, but only if used correctly. I see lots of play potential with it, especially for first blood. But it can cause those in it to rage by the lack of control, but just like real weather.
